It's about time. Since 1999 or so, they wanted to make a film based on the 70's show. (No offense, this makes the 90's version look like a bastardization.) Will Farrel will star in this film, directed by the one that gave us Anchorman. comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9299I can't wait to see production diaries of this film. I bet the special effects will be done by Weta Workshop.

Considering who is the star we will probably see more of Farrel than we will of the dinosaurs.

i can't say i like the sound of Farrel being in a serious movie... which is what this should be (not without humor, but fun and exciting). i really enjoy Will's stuff, but come on. still, with a good script it could be fun.

Hmmmmmmmmm! Color me skeptical. But I'm willing to go and see it. Especially if Grumpy is in it, and they call him Grumpy.

Grumpy, Alice, Emily and Dopey, and CHaka, not "Stink" or whatever he was called in the 80s-90s version.

On the Monster Zero board, it was also discussed the word “cheesy” had to come up when discussing the original show. And of course it was all meant in a good way! For me, that’s like telling someone he’s an idiot – but in a good way!
Sorry to beat a dead horse and I could understand why some would call the effects in the original “Land of the Lost” cheesy, but for me, the very word would only apply if the effects were intentionally done bad like say “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes”. I seriously doubt that Gene Warren or Wah Chang and Co. were purposely trying to make everything look second rate. And for that, throwing the cheese word around is sort of misguided. The same with the old Godzilla movies, or the Flash Gordon serials. Take into account the time constraints and budgets, and heck their effects were anything but cheesy! Even Ray Harryhausen’s movies these days are being called cheesy! Yikes!
As for this “Land of the Lost” feature, it is interesting casting that much I'll say.

i have more fun asking people what makes something cheesy. most never even bother answering or even trying to. that's telling there. and of course, i've read now Sid or Marty Krofft saying they are going to use a deliberate 'low-tech' look to the effects so people will think of the original show... how badly can someone miss the boat?
we didn't like the show only because of the effects- we liked it as a whole. dinosaurs, characters, stories, everything.

A show/movie is cheesy because some moron who works for some magazine like ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY says it's cheesy so everyone else says it's cheesy.Treat them like sheep and you will be able to lead them to the porkchop factory before they get wise.

hehehe, I like this little bit earlier in the thread if I do say so myself: Quote: Who is stink.
The person that makes a LOTL movie into a comedy with Will Farrel. ;D I had absolutely no hope for this project since first hearing that Farrel was involved. If they make this a comedy, then they really are idiots, because though this was a saturday morning show, it had more high concept scifi going on in it than most any scifi/fantasy/horror show since then. If I accidentally stumble on an article about the production I may post it here, but I'm definitely not going out of my way to look into it. Just too depressing.

Is there a glimmer of hope here?? With Will Farrell in it and the idea that it's a comedy, I still find it hard to believe, but this comment from the article below warmed my heart to the production at least a little: Director Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events) says he fought to keep the human shape of the Sleestak from Sid & Marty Krofft's original production, and not give into the urge to render them as spindly computerized beings. Here's the full article:First look: Kitschy 'Land of the Lost' gets a modern makeover By Anthony Breznican, USA TODAY Get back! It's a Sleestak attack!Fans of the kitschy adventure series Land of the Lost will remember these villainous lizard creatures with the single horn and giant eyes. The latest evolution of the species is preparing to menace Will Ferrell in a big-screen remake.
The Land of the Lost film is now shooting on multiple sound stages at Universal Studios, and the Sleestak surface in a temple where Ferrell's character and his two companions (comedian Danny McBride, Pushing Daisies' Anna Friel) are hoping a giant crystal will return them to their own dimension.
The plot involves three adults (not a dad and two kids as on TV) accidentally thrust into a realm ruled by dinosaurs, monkey-men called Pakuni and the murderous Sleestak.
Director Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events) says he fought to keep the human shape of the Sleestak from Sid & Marty Krofft's original production, and not give into the urge to render them as spindly computerized beings.
In the '70s TV show, they were guys in lime-green pajamas — and looked it. The Sleestak are much sleeker now, but the film is largely a comedy, so the guy-in-a-suit look has its charms, Silberling says. "There is a sense of humor that I loved from the original show that can only come from an actor trying to negotiate the suit. If it became CG, they'd be too perfect. For the Sleestak to remain in people's memories, it tells you that it was about who was in the suit."
One difference: Instead of toting crossbows, the Sleestak draw quills from their spines and fire them like arrows.
Marty Krofft says nostalgia is a major part of the movie's appeal: "I think they'll cheer when they see the Sleestaks."

Anna whatsername is a "dad"?
while the Sleestak look pretty cool, the spines thing is an awful idea as is the whole making it a comedy. i reckon there will be pratfalls from all around and lots of mugging. the Sleestak were damn scary to kids back in 1973.
sorry Marty, i'd cheer if the movie were true to the original series.

Isn't almost every movie based on a TV series turned into a parody of the original?
