I've written an extensive review of Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS. It's up at my site. It's part of a double-review/article about the Kiryu series. www.angelfire.com/ca5/blake/gxkiryu.htmlThere might be some spoilers. Let me know what you think.

So did anyone read the article or are you all waiting to watch the movie itself before opening up discussion?

Here's my review of the film: gojistomp.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=140149#140149I liked it, but unlike many others, I wasn't overly impressed with it. I think the Kiryu Saga is better as a whole, rather than two movies split apart. Its a good story arch, but a bit uneven as movies by themselves. Overall I think both movies are a new important part of Godzilla history and is a great throwback to the older films. GMMG itself was a fun, action packed a visually well crafted flick. I liked it.

David, it's Jimzilla! Finally back! It's good to be here!
Ok, now, I saw this at the Egyptian in Hollyweird when it premiered, and overall, I was very impressed! Of course, Mothra blew me away, and got blown away! I hated that.
I loved how it tied this film to Mothra 1961, and I did like how the battles were more brutal.
I got the 2 disc set from a company I won't name, and I must say the extras alone were intense! over 2 hrs worth of behind the scenes stuff. Sure some elements of the film were already seen in GXMG, but I think the rest of the film made up for this in a big way! I really didn't expect the ending either!
I can't wait for Final wars, as I loved Versus and Azumi!

I can burn it for you, and the extras too, if you want! BTW:do you still have that Mothra avatar that I used at the old Xeno? If so, can you set it up so I can have it on this Xeno?

Oh, maybe... Just got done watching this movie- it's pretty good, and now surpasses the previous one as my favorite 3rd series movie. Nice review as well, Blake.
spoiler-
strange that the end mimicked Johnny Sokko's end in a way....

*******SPOILERS******************
This is for people that have seen the movie (all the way to the final coda). The DNA in the chamber reads that it's from the 1954 Godzilla. I've theorized that the Godzilla in this timeline was a clone. I mean, the origin is never explained. Much like in G vs Biollante, there was an attraction to the monsters made from the same genetic material and would explain G's attraction to Kiryu. All I know is that it's very thought-provoking indeed.

The only two things that I enjoyed about TOKYO SOS were the fantastic special effects and how they handled Mothra. Toho has not gotten Mothra right since GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER, and after seeing this movie twice I can say that I've become a much bigger Mothra fan. And I also enjoyed Hiroshi Koizumi's apprearance. Otherwise, I thought the movie was awful.

Giganfan: "After seeing this movie twice I can say I'm becoming a Mothra fan!"
Glad to see you jump aboard the very small wagon! I've been her fan a long time, and often ridiculed by other G-Fans for my love of the earth spirit. I can agree this film finally did her justice!
I feel the last time Toho got Mothra right was Godzilla vs. The Thing!

So why didn't you like it, Giganfan? We need reasons! It moved pretty well for me, which was nice, since it took me 4 days to get through GMK when I watched it to review it for my column in G-Fan.

Yikes. I think GMK is fast paced. I can only imagine the pacing of GMM! So I take it you didn't like GMK all that much?

I liked it OK- better than the 90s movies, for sure, but it's not without flaws. It's a pretty lengthy review in the zine (due out soon, I think) so I don't wanna spoil it. I'd put it about the same as Megagiras in enjoyment. This one I liked more.

Like Jimzilla, I was also there at the Egyptian Theater to see this. I liked it very much. It was great to see Hiroshi Kozumi again and playing his old character from "Mothra". It was a significant role and not just some glorified cameo others have been given. This is probably the first feature that had Mechagodzilla that I truly enjoyed. (Terror of MG and G. Vs. MG '74, I thought were OK).
One of the great things I saw was director Masâki Tezuka, who just got a kick over the whole thing. He was shooting home video of the sell out crowd in the theater and loved the enthusiasm from the audience.

Gwangi, My brother, cousin and I were only 3 or four feet away from Tezuka, and after the film we walked right up and shook his hand complimenting him on the film. My brother, the half drunk madman that he his told him "your movie kicked arse!!!" While I just bowed and told him how I enjoyed it....I wonder what Tezuka thought of my crazed sibling!!! Yes, seeing the film in the theatre, a sold out show, the director there, that just adds to the overall greatness of the film, making it truly a memorable experience!

You saw it at a theatre? You lucky sons of....just joking. Oh what I wouldn't do to see a Godzilla movie (GINO not included) in a theatre. I should've paid my friend to go see G2000 w/ me. Oh well.

Jimzilla I was also a couple of feet away from Tezuka. Seeing him shoot home video of us in the theater I thought was neat! Can't believe we probably sat near each other and didn't even realize it! Missed opportunity I guess.

Gwangi, you couldn't have missed me, I'm sure you saw me. I was the long curly haired hippie looking guy, with a G 54 t shirt and shorts on, sporting lennon style glasses, and my brother balding, a wild goatee, and was wearing a marilyn manson shirt. If I'd known what you looked like, We coulda met, but next time....maybe for final wars, which I hear rumors it's premiering in Hollywood the end of November!!!
Also, I was amazed at the amount of fans that were at the show! I never knew there were so many of us in the L.A area!!!
BTW:Did you see that older woman in the green felt Godzilla costume? What a gas!! ;D
