Yup that was WPIX's Chiller opening. They had cancelled it by 1984 though. I only saw it a few times around 1981 or 82 when we'd be down to my grandmother's or aunts house(it's a 2 floor house). My uncle was still alive then (he died in 1985)and he loved Japanese monster movies. I used to spend Thanksgiving weekend there and the day after Thanksgiving my uncle and I would watch WWOR ch 9's Godzilla triple feature-Kong vs G, Megalon and Smog Monster!

I don't know if he did-by the time I was saw Chiller in the early 80s Zach was long gone, but WPIX had alot of the UPA and AIP Tohos since they first were released to TV in the 60s and early 70s, so there is certainly a chance that he did! I wonder if WPIX has any of the Zacherle shows in their archives?

Well my understanding is that Zacherle himself has the only remaining footage from his horror hosting days and they don't include anything involving kaiju films.

That's really a shame. Still I'd love to see whatever footage Zach still has. In 1986 Zach made a 2 hour video released through Goodtimes called Horrible Horror that featured him cleaning out his castle's basement and showing all kinds of clips and trailers and stuff, and he showed a brief clip from his old show where he sings a song about Dracula filing his teeth.

Ah, yes, I actually bought the HORRIBLE HORROR Goodtimes tape, and it's really really good. Two hours of great horror host fun!

I have a video called THE ZACHERLE ARCHIVES which has Zacherle hosting the supposedly only four existing kinescopes of his old shows, one from his Roland days hosting DRACULA and three as Zacherle mostly from his first year in New York.Without a doubt Zacherle wrote the book on horror hosting as just about many of the other hosts that followed in his footsteps, wether in the same area or not, seemed to have copied his formula for hosting the movies. At least that's my take on the subject as many of the more successful hosts seem to emulate him in one way or another.

he talks about Vampira on VAMPIRA: THE MOVIE (on Alpha DVD) which is a nice doc on the late hostess.
