Of the three creature films, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon", "Revenge of the Creature" and "The Creature Walks Among Us" I think the first was the best.
My problem with the 3rd wasn't so much what they had done to the creature or even that it had the weakest ending. Why I didn't care for was that entirely unncessary subplot of the unhappy marriage. Clearly I was supposed to sympathise with the wife, but I did not. Until he tried to frame the creature for murder my sympothizes were with the husband who had to put up with a rebellious, unsupporting, cold hearted wife.

Anyone have the strangest feeling that Universal is going to make a crappy remake of the original film? I really wouldn't be surprised.

Actually, I'm surprised somebody hasn't already.
I think its interesting that the first film killed off the creature but there was a sequel anyway. The second film killed the creature but there was a sequel anyway. But the third film which left the creature alive turned out to be the last in series.

a prequel could be OK, but sadly it would be all "new thought" and overt sex and gore, and in a bad way.

I've been talking to 'em about my story, which has the armies of fishmen living under the lake in these underwater caves, and they all fly around on wires and know kung fu and talk, kinda like the "Apes" remake, you know, they say "DEATH TO THE HUMANS!" (in an Admiral Ackbar voice) and things like that. And there's big CG crowd scenes with THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of creatures, because nowadays, thousands are better than just one or two, which would suck.
I asked 'em if they wanted to buy it, and they said that was a good idea, but it would be cheaper for them if they just borrowed the idea and didn't pay me, and I said fine.

They've been trying to remake this thing for years, but, keeping hitting major problems. The Creech is my fav. Universal Monster, and I believe that remaking it will only be bad.

i just picked up the DVD set, and i highly recommend it. you get three movies for about $20, you can't beat that deal.
all three discs have great commentary, and the first one has a wonderful documentary.
i hope there's never a remake.
