Believing he's shot a man radio personality Larry Lawrence hides in Mary Carter's trunk to escape the police. When the trunk is opened he finds himself on board a ship to Cuba. He has time to get off the ship but chooses to go to Cuba intead, to protect Miss Carter who has received a death threat.
Mary Carter has inherited a haunted castle on an island near Cuba. Everyone tries to convince her not to goto the island, claiming that those who have spent the night in the castle have been found dead the next morning.
The Ghost Breakers was a play, 1914 silent movie, a 1922 silent movie and finally this sound picture. In 1953 it was remade as "Scared Stiff" with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
This version is an excellent ghost story, comedy and murder mystery rolled into one.
The DVD part of "Bob Hope The Tribute Collection" has some good bonus material. A short documentary on Bob Hope and the USO, film clips of Bob Hope as host of "Command Performance" a radio series which tried to fill any request a soldier or sailor sent in, anything from having Judy Garland sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to Lena Horn frying a stake; and a short film promoting the sale of "Victory Bonds". Reminders that Hollywood was not always run by Anti-American communists and pacifists. Actors, singers, directors, producers and writers once loved their country and did their part in defending her, those who could became soldiers, sailors, airmen or marines, those who could not found other ways to serve. What a shame Hollywood is now full of people who hate this country and give aid and comfort to her enemies.
Geoff Montgomery: A zombie has no will of his own. You see them sometimes walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.
Larry Lawrence: You mean like Democrats.
