There's supposed to be a new Doctor Who series in the UK sometime in 2005. No word yet about it being available outside the UK. That probably depends on how it does at home. The series will consist of 13 forty-five minute episodes. The Doctor will be played by Christopher Eccleston and is apparently going to be considered Doctor #9. I wish they would have igorned the 1996 movie and made him the 8th. If they are going to make him #9 then they should get Paul McGann to do a regeneration scene. The new Doctor's new companion will be Rose Tyler, played by British pop singer Billie Piper. It's been officially announced that there will be no Daleks because the BBC and the Terry Nation estate could not come to terms. However, accordig to Outpost Gallifrey its possible that the Autons ("Spearhead From Space" and "Terror of the Autons") may appear in the first episode. Outpost Gallifrey also lists some episode titles: 1. Rose (after the new Doctor's new companion) 2. The End of the World 4. Aliens of London part 1 5. Aliens of London part 2 12. The Parting of the Ways part 1 13. The Parting of the Ways part 2 They don't have the titles for episodes 3, 6-11. No word on what monsters will appear, other than the rumor concering Autons. No info on whether the theme will be the original theme or another remix. As for the TARDIS exterior, apparently it will be the police call box (which BTW the BBC ownes the copyright on -- they bought it from the police). Filming may or may not have started, in Wales. Outpost Gallfrey can be found at www.gallifreyone.comMy little Doctor Who page, which I plan to expand, can be found at incolor.inetnebr.com/stuart/drwho/"I've already told you. I am known as the Doctor. I'm also a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous." -- The Doctor

Some photos of filming of the new series are available at www.cuttingsarchive.org.uk/ some of them contain hints as to who the hostile aliens are.

The new TARDIS exterior is apparently going to be fatter than the old one. This is because the new one has been built to the actual police blue prints. The old one wasn't entirely accurate.
No one in US has offered to purchase rights to the new series yet. Probably wont happen until its been aired in UK.
There are still a few PBS stations running old Doctor Who stories. Mine abanded science fiction more than a decade ago.

Channel 12 in CO was showing them, but I always missed the beginning so I didn't watch. That's the station that has always shown Doctor Who.

Yeah, I saw this. VERY cool... I'm disappointed in Eccleston's "costume", because he doesn't have one. He looks like he's dressed to go to the pub... Time will tell. At least it's new "Who"...something I was afraid would never happen...

the first episode is out on bittorrent if people can find it to download. me, i can wait for it on DVD or whatever. a little patience seems to be needed.
it's supposed to be pretty SOP though, and that's a good thing!

What does SOP mean? Nothing will ever compare to the great Tom Baker Who, but I really hope they bring K9 back, that robomutt was so much better than Blue Flacon's partner.

The BBC is investigating that theft of the new Doctor Who first episode. They did not authorize it being released on the net.

SOP = Standard Operating Procedure, meaning it's about the same as always- not too kiddie, not to "dark and gritty" and very British.
i wondered if the BBC was going after whoever "aquired" the first episode.

w00t... It's going to be debuting here in Canada on the CBC on April 5th or 9th or something like that... I'll probably make a point of watching it, but I'm honestly not holding out too much hope.
That is mostly because of the aforementioned lack of costume... He looks like a character from your average gritty urban UK crime movie, and if I wanted to watch that sort of thing, I would watch a gritty urban UK crime movie. I can get that they're probably trying to appeal to the Neo-Mod crowd, but it's not my scene... I have to admit that my favorite look belonged to #8. Even if the movie was crap, the Victorianesque/Steampunkesque look was perfect!

Cory, don't worry, he looks Mod and cool in pics, but his body language, gestures, facial ticks, etc., is totally Who. He really nailed the character and IMO is the best Doctor since Baker or Pertwee. At least that's my feeling based on the limited experience of seeing Rose.

I'm worried because there is a BBC aritcle in which the Rose actress claims the Doctor and Rose are in love.

well, until we see the episodes i'm not really worried about that sort of thing. i'd think a lot of the younger female companions had at least crushes on him back in the original series, at least Davison, maybe, but until we see something there for sure, meh. i suppose some actual romance wouldn't be so bad, as long as it's handled well. i mean, Timelords had to come from somewhere, didn't they? serve me right for not knowing!

To quote former producer John Nathan Turner, "There is no hankie pankie (sp?) in the TARDIS".
If we count the American tv movie, the Doctor is at least 1000 years old. So he's 50 times her age. He has a granddaughter, which means a son or daughter somewhere.
What happened to the rest of the Doctor's family has never been explained. Though there have been theories. One is that Master killed them all, except for his grandaughter Susan.
I would think regeneration would play havoc with relationships, the way it changes both physical appearance and personalities. The Doctor's Time Lord friends all seem to turn bad at some point. In Trial of a Time Lord there is even a wicked version of the Doctor. My theory is that regeneration ultimately causes insanity.

I just recalled another reason to be concerned about the new series. The woman hired to play the Doctor's companion, Rose, is not an actress. She's a pop singer.

i have heard good things about her in the show, but since i haven't seen it i don't know. here's hoping she's good in the role.

great suffering cats!! That's horrible!! I can't watch the show now. *snicker* I think she is just fine in the role. Being a pop singer that I've never heard of makes no difference to me since the end product is that she's a good fit for the show.

Someone who thinks Doctor Who is supposed to be a romance is not a good fit for the show. And pop singers can't act (they can't sing either but thats another subject).
