Some good news regarding this semi-forgotten cult classic. Retromedia has attained the rights to this film and are planning a special edition DVD release at some point in the near future. I recall seeing this film once or twice on either Channel 5 or Channel 38 back in the early '80s.
If your memory needs a nudge, its the film about a Nazi scientist breeding flesh-eating creatues on a remote island, where a plane full of people get stranded and become dinner. The climax featured the hero stabbing a giant flesh eater through its lone eye with a huge hypodermic needle on the beach. Cool movie, gave me nightmares as a youngster.

it's a very cool movie. i need to write Fred and tell him i'd be happy to review it for him...
Martin Koslek plays the mad scientist and he did this most of his career. he's even playing an Iron Curtain scientist in AGENT FOR H.A.R.M. who has a flesh eating outer space bacteria being developed.
can't wait to see this DVD. there's still some controversy which version they will show- i hope they can get both (nearly the same, just some different scenes). they gotta keep the color ending though- Sci-Fi had the version without the color ending, and it's not as much fun.

I always wanted to see this movie. There's a fairly positive review of this film at "The Bad Movie Report" at www.stomptokyo.com.

I think I saw The Flesh Easters on DVD at Best Buy. Seems to me it was a part of a double feature. Is there a sequel?

not to my knowledge. it's a b/w movie, quite creepy and well done, with a small cast. let us know if you have seen it, although there are a few other "flesh" titled movies out there as well.

Could be some other Flesh title, whatever it was didn't interest me. I seem to have become adicted to Vincent Price movies. I keep buying them.

Hey...there's worse things to be into than Vincent Price. At least that's good for ya!
"THE FLESH EATERS" is a sick sick movie, it is warped and demented! Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! This is some gruesome material! Recommended.

mind you, it is a little bloody, but nothing really by today's standards. in fact, mostly they let us imagine how bad things are.
some of the effects are truly startling, and even more so when you know how simple they really are.

Hey, being a Vincent Price addict is a good thing! As I've said before, his name generally adds 3 of the 5 stars to any film right off the bat (no pun intended).
Back to The Flesh Eaters, you very likely saw the Flesh Eaters from Outer Space double feature, a completely different set of films. There's also a zombie flick called Flesh Eater, made by Bill Hinzman (he played the zombie in the opening graveyard sequence in NOTLD '68). This Retromedia release is the first time the film we're talking about is available on legitimate North American DVD.
I'm happy I caught the news about this release, as I was considering buying a DVD-R copy of The Flesh Eaters over the last week or so. I'd actually sat down and brought up a site to buy it, but my sons interrupted me, and it worked out well. The legit release will be superior and probably cost less than a copy. Looks like it's going to be a good year for DVD!

I remember that movie. My family had it on the same tape as Day of the Animals and Revenge of the Nerds.

I went to Bestbuy today. I think what I saw there before was "Flesh Easters From Space" which is with a second similar film.

With Drake still alive (and quite entertaining, by all accounts), it would be a crime not to get him to do a commentary track. I hope Fred Olen Ray realizes this. I think he would more than most video label honchos.

If you're a regular customer there, then by all means go ahead (by the way, they have it listed at $15 tonight). I'd wait, however. I was checking out some of their prices, and they come in anywhere from 30-100% (a few were more than double the price) higher than Deep Discount DVD. Just as an example, Deep Discount has Matango listed for $11.98, and Creepy Classics is selling it for $20. Saving $8 plus the shipping cost is quite a big difference.
By the way, seeing shows like Diff'rent Strokes out on DVD is driving me crazy, since I'm still sitting here waiting for Tales From the Crypt to be put to disc. Does anyone know what the holdup has been with it coming to DVD? Rights issues or something along those lines? I've seen rumors claiming the first season may be released in the first half of 2005, but it's nothing concrete or substantiated.

I went to Creepy Classics because I read they had a made for tv movie I've been looking for. Deep Discount doesn't have it. I noticed the Flesh Eaters was there in passing. I must have remebered the wrong price.
I thought they might be over priced when I saw titles for $7-10 which I picked up at Walmart, Target, Best Buy or Dollar Tree for $1.
I just ordered the tv movie I wanted and another one I couldn't find anywher else. Both British productions from the 1970s.

i'd also wait for RetroMedia's DVD of it as well- it'll probably be better than what may very well be a DVDr, or from Sinister from a 16mm print.
nice site though, they sure have a lot of interesting stuff.

Right. In terms of hard-to-find stuff, Deep Discount is like Best Buy or any other commercial site. I use Video Screams myself for lost or rare films. I was speaking about the commercial release of The Flesh Eaters. The one at Creepy Classics is put out by Crypt Flicks, and I'm pretty sure they make DVD-R copies, not legitimate commercial releases. Even at $15, it's better to wait for the RetroMedia release, which should be around $10, I'd assume.
