Hong-Yip Cheng .... Chow Kan Norman Chu .... Chang Hou Hsiao Yasuaki Kurata .... Takeno, Japanese ninjutsu expert Hoi San Lee .... Bald Pupil Chia Hui Liu .... Ho Tao
Chia-Liang Liu .... Drunken Master Yûko Mizuno .... Kung Zi Hitoshi Omae .... Japanese judo expert Wilson Tong Nobuo Yana .... Japanese spear expert Siu Tien Yuen .... Tao's Teacher
notice anyone missing from these IMDB credits? like, Gordon Lau Kar Fei? who plays the frikkin' STAR of the movie, Ah To? yeeesh.
anyway, what a fun movie this is. Ah To maries Kudo (a Japanese girl, Kung Zi in the subs) and they have a difference of opinion which leads to Ah To being Challenged by the top Martial Artists from Japan.
he ends up besting them all in a variety of styles, and earning their respect.
good movie, easily one of Lau Kar Leung's best. it's no surprise the Chinese come out on top, but some of them could have given him a bit more run for his money. part of this movie was later incorporated into Jet Li's excellent FIST OF LEGEND, which also starred Yasuaki Kurata.
the DVD i have contains both a Chinese track (probably Cantonese) and the classic English dub. looks great, those Celestial DVDs are astounding. the subs make it clear that the Japanese speak Japanese, except for Kudo and the ninja master, which makes the dub a bit confusing at times.

My version was a bootleg VHS from Grandmastervideo.com which was dubbed in English with Dutch subtitles. Interestingly enough, the copies of "Yes, Madam" and "Project A" had Dutch subtitles as well.
Wonderful movie, without a doubt one of the GREATEST depictions of ninjitsu on celluloid.

great higgledy piggledy! i am watching the new Dragon Dynasty DVD of this movie (HEROES OF THE EAST now) and the commentary alone is astounding. usually i don't go for them very much, but Logan Bey is just an amazing source of information. and he never goes too fast, just an even flow, but you can tell his love of the genre and film.
the DVD is highly recommended.
