EMLLI presented their second show at Cicero Sports Stadium on May 4th.As per usual with Chicago Lucha there was a late start, plus they just had to have a mairiachi band who actually took requests. They didn't know the song I asked for which was "Get out of the ring and start the matches already!!!!" so instead of a 7 pm bell time it was almost 8 pm before any actual wrestling occurred. The first match was highlighted by up and comer Aguila Tapatia Jr.During the other matches it was a mixed bag of good, bad, and just plain dull at times.Perhaps the most interesting point of the undercard was Tigre knocking himself out cold after performing an off the top rope suicide flip out of the ring and missing his target. The fourth match of the night was a mixed tag team match with Miss America and Xotchitl Hamada teaming with local guys like Angel Dorado.I couldn't resist starting a "JERRY!!JERRY!!" chant whenever the women faced off which seemed to confuse the luchadoras who apparantly missed the connection. The semi was definately the best as local rudos Tyme Paige,Guerrerito de Futuro,Yakuza and Amenaza del Siglo took on Samurai,Mini Charlie Manson and the father son duo of Huracan Ramirez sr and Jr.Almost as a lark I started chanting HURACAN!HURACAN! and it caught on.Apparantly the Huracanes fed off of this and delivered one of the best,if not the best semi main event match I have ever seen at a live event.I have often derided any of the post Daniel Garcia Huracanes but after their impressive display I might have to retract some of my statments.Sadly the main event was the worst match of the night. The promised headliner Blue Demon Jr did not appear and was replaced by Black Shadow Jr.This is like trading in a corvette for a station wagon.Shadow Jr teamed with Octagon and local talent Rayo Laser to take on Casandro,Pentagon and local Aguila del America. One would have assumed the rivalry between Octagon and Pentagon would have carried this match. But they couldn't carry it if it had handles. Both men were slow and sluggish despite the ring announcer's claim that Octagon was "the fastest wrestler ever".The match was so dull alot of people began to clear out before the match ended. After the match there was about twenty minutes of the usual microphone taunts which really don't mean squat unless they are bringing these guys back next time for a grudge match. All in all it was a real letdown after the great semi.
Crowd attendance was about half capacity for the venue which is said to be able to hold about 1,800 people. So it was roughly 900 people in the crowd. But as far as the Huracanes go there was a million people and they had them in the palms of their hands.
