During one of the worst snowstorms ever a man desperate to provide for his wife and children buys flight insurance then boards a 707 to Rome with a bomb.
This Academy Award nominated film began the sucessful series of "Airport' films. Spoofed in the "Airplane" series.
Airport has a number of subplots which apparently confuses the low attention span audiences of this new century who leave negative comments about the film at IMdb. I didn't like Dean Martin in this film, just because he was playing an unfaithful husband. Although her role as the betrayed wife was a small one it was fun to see Barbara Hale (Perry Mason's faithul private secretary Della Street) again. Burt Lancaster as the airport manager loves his job more than his wife, who asks for a divorce. Unlike Dean Martin and Burt Lancaster, George Kennedy loved his wife and wanted get the airplane stuck in the snow off the runaway so he could back home for a rare night alone with her (the kids being with the inlaws). Helen Hayes was great as the stowaway.
Available on DVD set titled Airport Terminal Pack which contains four Airport films.
