Five chocolate gandy bars made by Willy Wonka's world famous candy factory contain one golden ticket each. The ticket holder wins a life time supply of chocolate and a tour of the factory. One guest may accompany each ticket holder. Five children find the tickets, four naughty children and one good boy, Charlie.
According to the director the secret to the success of this film is that he made it for adults with the belief that children were smart enough to understand it.
According to IMdb there was no sequal (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator) because Roald Dahl was unhappy with David Seltzer's changes to the script and refused to grant the rights to the second book.

I like this musical morality tale. I have not seen, nor do I plan to see, the remake. No one could do a better job playing Willy Wonka than Gene Wilder.
"So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. "
