I just read in my local newspaper that Darren McGavin has died. He was 83.
The short aritlce does not mention The Night Stalker, The Night Strangler or Kolchak: The Night Stalker, but I'll never forgot the real Carl Kolchak.

Indeed, while a majority will remember Darren MaGavin as the dimwitted father in "A Christmas Story", for me he will always be Carl Kolchak!

Darren McGavin was without a doubt one of the most consistant, reliable character actors of the last half century(though I,like many, will remember him most fondly for having originated the role of Carl Kolchak.)Chris Carter had always claimed ''THE NIGHT STALKER'' as being a major influence on ''THE X-FILES'';I wonder if Carter had also seen McGavin's movie ''HANGAR 18''(about 2 astronauts attempting to expose a government conspiracy to hide evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence)?Rest In Peace,Darren McGavin;you will be missed.
