war is declared, the Indians have turned the French against the British settlers! Hawkeye is dispatch with messages to save the towns from the "bloodthirsty" Hurons. the brave Mohicans are their only hope!
Maqua is trying to turn the Mohicans against the English. Hawkeye and Maqua have a face to face as well. the Huron later attack the Mohican village and wipe them out. Chingachgook and Uncas are the only two left. they take up the warpath against the Huron and French.
later on the two Mohicans and Hawkeye join up with Major (Doofus) Heyward and the women. a battle then breaks out between Indian tribes.
our beleaguered heroes escape in a canoe, but the Huron are hot on their trail. however, they are heading right toward rapids AND waterfalls- and over they go!

this is remarkably true to the first couple chapters of the book!

(it's 1757)
Chinga and Hawkeye are safe, but the girls were saved by Frenchmen who give them to Magua. we find out why he hates their father.
Uncas finds them and tells them what happened to the girls. at the Huron village Alice is to be sacrificed. she's not afraid. before that can happen, Hawk and Chinga strike with flaming arrows. unfortunately, a Huron drops a torch onto the pyre Alice is tied to and the flames start creeping toward her!

most of the Huron braves run off, and Hawk easily releases Alice. Chinga and Hawk cover their retreat as Uncas leads the girls and guys away. a fake Heyward tells Col. Munro he alone survived the attack. Heyward tricks the Col. into not getting Hawk's dispatches so he can steal them! the alert is sounded but too late.
Hawk goes to get the fake Heyward. he gets to the Huron and lets them know Hawkeye is on his trail. the Huron have set a trap for the British soldiers trying to help the party in the cave. the battle is joined in both fronts- it seems hopeless!

Magua has the braves spare the captives. he will get his revenge on Col. Munro with them. he gives them to Gen. Montcalm so Munro will turn over the fort to the French. Montcalm is furious that Magua tried to use the women that way.
Hawkeye gets captured as well the French can't attack the fort since they have low powder supply. Cora overhears that and reports to Heyward. then Chinga and Uncas arrive to help them escape. Magua is sent after them.
they meet up with some British soldiers and plan a trap for the Frenchmen. the Huron shoot flaming arrows at the powder train our heroes have taken, which does catch on fire and explodes!

the wagon blows up, but our heroes have lept clear. Chinga and Hawk make a false trail for the Huron to follow.
the Huron and the French attack the fort. they take it over, and the girls are reunited. as the English leave the fort the Huron attack them. Cora's horse gets spooked and runs away and she gets shot!

Chinga and Uncas save Hawk and the Col. but Magua has taken Alice. later some English are ambushed for the gold they carry. Cora, who was not shot, finds one of the dying men. he tells her where the gold is in the river, just beyond Skull Rock.
Magua accidentally rescues Cora from the thieves. Dulac volunteers to rescue the women, but he wants to get the location of the gold from them instead.
our heroes attack the Hurons but are vastly outnumbered!

the girls are rescued by the French and promised safe return. Dulac has words with the French commander.
the Mohicans follow Magua. they find out he plans to attack the French from the rear. Dulac presses Cora for the secret of the gold and takes her from the French. the Hurons ambush the French and a gunbattle breaks out.
Cora rides away from Dulac and his men. the Huron shoot our heroes!

our heroes faked getting shot and clobber the Hurons that are left. Dulac wants Cora to tell her where the treasure is. Magua wants Cora or he will also kill Alice.
Hawk and the Major rescue Alice, and do the dead trick again. meanwhile, Dulac's cabin is on fire as the Hurons bust in!

Hawk finds a secret passage into the cabin and they rescue the people inside, though Dulac and his men get away as well. Cora ends up with Magua, and he doesn't kill her. our heroes make ready to rescue Cora.
Uncas fills Hawk and Chinga in on the deal of Magua with Cora. to rescue her our heroes head out in a canoe on the water, followed by dozens of Huron!

our heroes use the "pretend we're dead" trick AGAIN. Magua intends to make Cora his bride. Redwing, a maiden of the Huron, is upset at this development. naturally, Redwing will help Cora kill herself, but before that can happen, our heroes show up to help her escape.
Dulac has the Major go to the Hurons to get Alice as well. Duncan tells everyone (including Magua) what Dulac is up to. Magua sends his braves to scalp the Frenchmen.
Uncas is found out and the Huron capture him, and get ready to burn him alive! Hawkeye has a plan, but gets captured by Dulac before it can be executed...

Dulac marches Hawk into the Huron camp. Dulac is perturbed when Cora tells him there are Huron Braves headed to rescue Alice. Col. Munro hears the battle and his men head over to attack.
Alice tells them where Cora is, and the Col. heads to get her. turns out the medicine man is a good guy, who frees our heroes. Duncan is made to run the guantlet, but the English show up before it happens.
the fire is set but will the troops get there in time? Magua goes to get Cora again, and takes both women.

the soldiers save our heroes from the fire. they then find out Magua has taken the women. Dulac follows Magua. Cora and Alice get the upper hand on Magua, but not for long. Alice gets away, and Magua wings Chinga in the arm.
Cora says she will die before going with Magua. Magua is a coward and will save the girl and go free. Dulac shoots Hawk and a battle breaks out. Dulac ends up with Cora, but Hawk is only winged. he gets Dulac with his long rifle.
Chinga has been killed, and with him died Magua. Uncas is the last of the Mohicans.
The End
comments: not as bad as i thought it would be from the beginning. being an Alpha disc, well, you know what that means. a better transfer and having the prints cleaned up would make it much more fun, but it's pretty creaky overall. the various cliffhangers seem rather forced on occasion.
it is true to the story, from what i can tell. the acting ranges from decent to a bit stiff.
it's fun to see all the scenery, especially the canoe shots in the river, since you know they have to be on location there. it's also quite cold, as you can see the actors' breath on occasion.
