I met him a few years back at WIZARDWORLD.Really nice guy, down to Earth, witty and willing to talk about his career and the business in general.A refreshing change in a sea of disgruntled has been actors overcharging for their John Hancock's.

In reading his obit in the LA Times, Stan once stated: "Special effects, by themselves, don't mean diddly squat in a movie. If the characters I created can't perform, can't act and aren't interesting, it just isn't going to work. It doesn't matter how good the technique is if you have not created interesting characters." How so true that is. Filmmakers who can't get enough of CGI, and their devoted fanboys, should stop and read what Stan said. It makes sense! I was lucky enough to see Stan at Ray Harryhausen's Hollywood Walk-of-Fame star ceremonies in 2003. I did want to speak with him, but got cold feet, and he was there talking to anyone! RIP Stan
