I am planning to review all of Terence Fisher's "non-Hammer" horror films, so, here goes! BTW, was Fisher an excellent director or what? I love ALL his films, I mean what a lineup, anyways, Island of Terror is about some people trapped on an island that is besieged by alien creatures that feed on our bones (!) This movie is SO cool, it has an original premise, solid writing and direction, lightning pace and, of course Peter Cushing at his best(when was he not?) Some people complain about the SFX, but IMO they are just as good as anything in, say, Doctor Who or the original Star Trek. Any comments?
I will be reviewing "Night of the Big Heat"(1967) soon

I remember this as being really enjoyable. First saw it with my then-future wife back in the late '70s. We both dug it a lot and were quite startled at the dismemberment scene. Peter Cushing was such a great actor. I've liked him in everything I've ever seen - just watched THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) again last night.
I don't believe ISLAND OF TERROR has been officially released on Region 1 DVD, right? I have it taped from cable in the '80s somewhere, but it was a bad copy (unfortunately, our cable happened to have lots of snow that day).

I'll have to dig up a copy of this,it's been ages since I saw it last. It could almost have been a Jon Pertwee Doctor Who episode. The slurping sounds the silicants made were pretty memorable as was the mush faced boneless guy.

I have the 1994 Universal "Golden Age" VHS release of this. I had never even heard of it prior to spotting it on a local retailer's shelf. I picked it up mainly because I recognized Ed Judd on the sleeve artwork. I thoroghly enjoyed his work in the superior sci-fi flick "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" (and if you don't have that beautifully restored widescreen film in your DVD collection then double SHAME on you!!).
Anyhow, after the first viewing of "Island..." I fell in love with it: the creepy silicant monsters, Peter Cushing in top form (as he always was), the isolation aspect of their plight... in general the whole vibe of the film. So when Universal re-released all of their Golden Age titles ported onto DVD this kid was really hoping it would make the cut, but sadly...
Anyhow, here's hoping it will still get a DVD release at some point in the near future. This film deserves it.
And yes... include me among fans of all of Terence Fisher's work. He truly did some fantastic stuff in his career and deserves more recognition for what was overall a very impressive body of work.
