This is one of the saddest items I've ever posted:Lau Kar Leung, master of Hung Gar Kuen&one of the most innovative, influential fight choreographers in martial arts cinema history has died at age 76 following a lengthy battle with leukemia. The third son of Lau Jam(senior pupil of Butcher Wing who in turn was the senior pupil of Wong Fei Hung himself),Lau Kar Leung got his start in motion pictures by appearing in several installments of the long-running Wong Fei Hung film series starring Kwan Tak Hing during the 1950's&early 1960's as a stunt fighter alongside another talent,Tong Gaai.In the mid-60's Lau&Tong were hired by Sir Run Run Shaw to be fight choreographers for The Shaw Bros' Studios ;the pair would go on to a very profitable&prolific partnership with director Chang Cheh ,changing martial arts film making forever in the process... The legacy left behind by Lau Sifu is beyond compare.Farewell,Pops;we miss you already.
