I could've sworn this was out on legit R1 DVD, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. There's some obvious bootlegs out there, mostly full screen even but zip on the real thing in wide screen etc. Reality check anyone?

nope, no legit R1 release. i taped mine off AMC, letterboxed and uncut (tho some nakedity was fuzzed out). the tape was a fullscreen US version, as was the LD release. i have no hope that any DVD version would be any better- see the useless DVD of ONE MILLION YEARS BC.

it's out now, Best Buy exclusive, and on the same disc is MOON ZERO TWO, which i've never seen and am looking forward to.
the prints look good, it's lb AND the uncut 100 minute version. there's a brief shot of breasts that isn't really the least bit sexy. instead of editing that out they should have edited the movie into something a bit more cohesive with a bit less emphasis on the "blonds are bad" cult.

MOON ZERO TWO used to come on pretty often in the early 70s (maybe around the same time as the Matt Helm movies ) but I only remember a couple of things about it... it reminded me of a Gerry Anderson type show with the wacky Sylvia Anderson looking costumes, awful music and the one thing I remember is having the wits scared out of me by a skull inside of a space suit. WDRTE is no great movie though Danforth's effects make it something special, but to be paired with MOON ZERO TWO? They must not think much of WDRTE at all. That being said I'll have to stop by Best Buy ASAP.

Finally, my Best Buy stores had it and I immediately bought my copy!
I've also never seen "Moon Zero Two", so I dug up Leonard Maltin's book and he states that it's like a Western, but that it takes place in the moon. Interesting premise, but he then gave the movie a *1/2 rating! Of course, I will eventually rate it in my own terms.

it looks like a cool movie- the opening is pretty fun. love that animation!
my friend asked them about it up in LA when they were sold out, and they told him they would have more on this past Tuesday. i hope all those annoying speculators get caught with 123 copies.

After reading the article on Sci-Fi Japan I immediately ordered a copy online and had my local BB hold one for me. WDRTE's been one of my "guilty pleasure" movies for many, many years. This and One Million Years B.C. make for a great "Babes & Dinos" double feature. (And thankfully the copy I got was the full 100min British version.)
I will agree with David that the first 'restored' scene where the older caveman gets his mojo workin' with that ugly cave mama was entirely un-erotic, however I thought the extra bits featuring Vetri's extra bits were a visual feast. I don't know about anyone else, but any film that features a strikingly beautiful woman like Victoria Vetri au natural just HAS to be a good thing. Her jiggle factor in that gravity-defying bikini top was always incredible. (How in the world did that thing not pop off when she always seemed to be running and bouncing around? Was it glued in place?!?) But to see her from head to toe in the buff is downright jaw-dropping. What a total honey she is. The scenes were tastefully done (and shot) and were actually charmingly innocent - for what they were.
I come from a time when a really sexy woman was 100% real: no plastic surgery (yuck), no tattoos or piercings (double yuck) and naturally healthy-looking (soft, round curves), without being scrawny & anemic or a manly-looking muscle chick. Victoria Vetri is simply stunning; in certain ways even more attractive than Raquel Welch, (although I could've done without Vic's blond wig). At least V.V. didn't have any hang ups about showing her body; something I regrettably cannot say about Ms. Welch. *SIGH*
As for the animation, I enjoyed Danforth's work here more than Harryhausen's in 1,000,0000 B.C. For one thing, Jim's work is smoother; and just being something other than the usual RH stuff gave the creatures a different, refreshing "performance." It's a real shame Mr. Danforth's work never got the recognition it deserved. He definitely lived under the long shadow of Ray, which was quite unfair. Jim's work was every bit as polished and innovative as anything Ray did. In some ways it was much better. His F/X work in WDRTE is outstanding.

In regards to "Moon Zero Two", I finally had a chance to view it. I thought it was incredibly hokey. Some elements were awfully dated, and women on the moon wearing silly wigs, for what reason I have no idea! In essence - I actually liked it! Well, I guess in reading some of the reviews out there, my expectations were pretty low. No, I probably would not recommend this to others, but for my satisfactions, I’m giving it a passing grade!

Yeah, the whole caveman/dinosaur genre just doesn't do much for me either, at least not as we've seen it yet. Though the Ringo Starr CAVEMAN was pretty fun.
