First team based on color (Akarenjâ [Redranger], Aorenjâ [Blueranger], Kirenjâ [Yellowranger], Momorenjâ [Pinkranger], Midorenjâ [Greenranger]). Characters by Ishinomori, Shotaro and Hirayama, Tôru. Features Miyauchi, Hiroshi as Shinmei, Akira the Aorenjâ. The late Andô, Mitsuo (Professor Gill) voices Black Cross Führer (Kuro Jüjigun Sôtô) leader of the Black Cross Army (Kuro Jüjigun) for first 55 episodes. Ban, Daisuke guest stars in episode 81 (as a bad guy for once). Ikeda, Shunsuke guest stars in episode 83. Music composed by Watanabe, Michiaki aka Watanabe, Chumei. OP and ED vocals by Sasaki, Isao with Horie, Mitsuko on OP. First original sentai movie, Secret Task Force Goranger: Bomb Hurricane (July 18, 1976). I've seen all episodes and movie. -- First, longest running and in my opinion the best sentai.
J.A.K.Q. Dengeki Tai [J.A.K.Q. Lightning Strike Team] (1977) - 35 episodes
First team based on cards (Spade Ace, Dia[mond] Jack, Clover King, Heart Queeen). First team of cyborgs. First to start with less than 5 members (4). Ishinomori, Shotaro's last sentai. Features martial arts actor Ishibashi, Masashi as the evil Iron Claw/Warrior Ironclaw. In episode 23 Miyauchi, Hiroshi joins the cast as Banba, Sôkichi who transforms into Big One. Music composed by Watanabe, Michiak. OP and ED vocals by Sasaki, Isao. First sentai crossover film, J.A.K.Q. Lightning Strike Team vs. Secret Task Force Goranger (March 18, 1978). I've seen all episodes and movie. -- Fun, underrated series.
Batoru Feebâ J [Battle Fever J] (1979) - 52 episodes
First team based on nationality (Battle Japan, Battle France, Battle Kenya, Battle Cossack [Russia], Miss America). First in which the team battles giant monsters with a giant robot. Unlike most later sentai the human sized monsters do not giant size, instead the giant is a robot duplicate of the human sized monster. First to have an orange ranger (Battle Cossack) instead of yellow. First to have a black ranger (Battle Kenya is mix of black and green). Itô, Yukio who played Asuka, Kenji, the Midorenjâ (Green Ranger) in Gorenjâ is Shiraishi, Kensaku, Battle Cossack for first 33 episodes. Ban, Daisuke takes his place as Jin, Makoto. Lisa Komaki who played Peggy Matsuyama the Momorenjâ (Pink Ranger) in Gorenjâ wears the Miss America costume for first 17 episodes. Stuntmant-actor Oba, Kenji plays Akebono, Shirô, Battle Kenya. Îzuka, Shôzôe (voice of Hakaida) provides the voice for the wicked Saturn Egos. Ishibashi, Masashi is Saturn Egos right hand Commander Hedda. Music composed by Watanabe, Michiaki. OP and ED vocals by Mojo. No movie. I've seen every episode. -- I like that the heroes don't use their killing attack only see the monster revived and giant sized so they have to kill it again.

First team which is not part of a government agency. Oba, Kenji plays Oume Daigorou, Denzi Blue. Machiko, Soga (God Iquana in Rainbowman and voice of Dr. Kate in Kamen Rider Stonger) plays the evil Queen Hedrian. Toudou, Shinji (Yamashiro Takuya in Toei's version of Spider-Man) is her right hand man Shogun (General) Hedrer. Music composed by Watanabe, Michiaki. OP and Ed vocals by Narita, Ken. Movie: Electronic Task Force Denziman (July 12, 1980). I've only seen the first 5 episodes and the movie. -- I liked Oba, Kenji in Battle Fever J so it was good to see him in this. Need to see more to get a better feel for it.
Taiyo Sentai Sanbarukan [Solar Task Force Sun Vulcan] (1981) - 50 episodes
First (and last) time a sentai is a direct sequel to the previous one. First three man team, no female member so first without a pink ranger. First team based on animals (Vul Eagle, Vul Shark, Vul Panther). First in which red ranger is replaced. Îzuka, Shôzôe provides voice for Fuehrer Hell Saturn. Machiko, Soga joins the cast in episode 5 as Cyborg Queen Hedrian. Episode 23 introduces Amazon Killer, the last(?) Vader (evil group in Denjiman). Episodes 45 introduces Inazuma Ginga voiced by Watanabe, Takeshi (the voice of Shadow Knight and Waruda in Kikaida 01). Music composed by Watanabe, Michiaki. OP and ED vocals by Kushida, Akira. Movie: Solar Task Force Sun Vulcan (July 18, 1981). -- I'm suprised that there was no Denziman vs Sun Vulcan film seems it would be a natural since Sun Vulcan is supposed to be a sequel to Denziman. I've seen all episodes and movie.
Dai Sentai Gôguru Faibu [Great Task Force Goggle Five] (1982) - 50 episodes
First in which giant robot is produced by combining vehicles. Last sentai to have music composed by Watanabe, Michiaki. OP and ED vocals by Mojo. Movie: Great Task Force Goggle Five (March 13, 1982). -- Didn't impress me. I like the theme songs better than the show. I like ED better than OP.
Kagaku Sentai Dainaman [Science Task Force Dynaman] (1983) - 51 episodes
First team to have colored smoke appear after they henshin. Haruta, Junichi who played Kuroda Kanpei/Goggle Black plays Hoshikawa, Ryu/Dyna Black. Watanabe, Takeshi voices the evil Emperor Aton. Ishibashi, Masashi returns to sentai as the evil General Kar (Kar Shogun). Music composed by Kyo, Kensuke, composer for Kaiketsu Zubat. OP and ED vocals by Mojo. Movie: Science Task Force Dynaman (March 13, 1983) [reshown as episode 32]. I've only seen first 5 episodes and the movie. -- I wish I had more of this one. I like Dyna Black, the modern day ninja.
Chôdenshi Baioman [Super Electron Bioman] (1984) - 51 episodes
First to have two female rangers, first in which yellow is female (rather than strongest male). Second in which the giant monsters are not revived human sized monsters but are robots (usually piloted by the human sized monsters). Later episodes feature Biohunter Silva a warrior robot which fights both heroes and villians, looks like updated version of Hakaida and goes around saying "hakai, hakai hakai". Music composed by Kunihiko Kase. OP and ED vocals by Miyauchi, Takayuki. Movie: Super Electron Bioman (July 14, 1984). I've only seen episodes 1-4, 37-40, 48-51 and movie. -- I like that the heroes don't kill the monster only to see it revived as a giant but otherwise I just couldn't get into Bioman. I'm not sure why. I like the theme songs better than the show.
Dengeki Sentai Chenjiman [Electric Strike Task Force Changeman] (1985) - 55 episodes
First in which heroes are based on mytholgical creatures (Dragon, Griffin, Pegasus, Mermaid, Phoenix). Second to have two females, first to have pink and white on the team (usually white replaces pink). First in which the team blasts the human sized monster with an energy bazooka ("Power Bazooka"). Features an evil person that is obviously female but speaks with a male voice. Watanabe, Takeshi voices Godai (the monster that revives killed monsters as giants). Music composed by Katsuo Ôno. OP and ED vocals by Kageyama, Hironobu (as Kage). Movie: Electric Strike Task Force Changeman (March 16, 1985). Movie: Electric Strike Task Force Changeman: Shuttle Base! The Critical Moment! (July 13, 1985). I've seen episodes 1-5, 37 and the both movies. -- Didn't impress me. I like the theme songs better than the show.
Chôshinsei Furasshuman [Super Nova Flashman] (1986) - 50 episodes
First team to have more than one giant robot (3). Children kidnapped by aliens return to Earth as young adults to find their parents and defend their home planet from the aliens who abducted them. Unfortunantly they can only live on Earth for 1 year and that's not enough time to find their familes since they have no idea what the real names are. Music composed by Yukihide Takekawa. OP and ED vocals by Kitahara, Taku. Movie: Super Nova Flashman (March 15, 1986). Movie: Super Nova Flashman: Great Reversal! Titan Boy (March 14, 1987) [episodes 15-18 editted into a 25 minute film]. I've seen episodes 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 12, 47-50 and both movies. -- Too similar to Changeman for me. I like the theme songs better than the show.
Hikari Sentai Masukuman [Light Task Force Maskman] (1987) - 51 episodes
First to have robot created by combining 5 vehicles. First to have a second bazooka. First to have a 6th Ranger (X1 for only one episode, 39). Red Mask's girlfriend is from an underground society and sent to spy on the world above. When she falls for a surface human she's adbucted by her people and frozen solid as punisment. Her sister was raised as a man and everybody calls her Prince instead of Princess. Music composed by Daisuke, Inoue. OP and ED vocals by Kageyama, Hironobu. Movie: Light Task Force Maskman (July 18, 1987). I've seen episodes 1-7, 9, 11, 48-51 and the movie. -- I like this one, want to see more.
Chôjû Sentai Raibuman [Super Beast Task Force Liveman] (1988) - 49 episodes
First to have a female blue ranger. Second team based on animals (Falcon, Lion, Dolphin, Bison, Rhino). Starts out with only 3 members, 2 men, 1 woman. Two more young men join later. First two episodes feature Ban, Daisuke as the scientist who created the mechas. I wish he hadn't been killed in second episode. Instead of a woman treated like a man, one of the chief villians is a man who dresses like a girl, complete with shiny, dangling earrings. He's in love with himself. Music composed by Kosugi, Yasuo. OP and ED vocals by Shima, Daisuke who plays Amamiya, Yûsuke (Red Falcon). No movie. I've seen episodes 1-6, 46-49. -- I like this one, except both groups, good and evil should fire their hairstylists and villians have horrible taste in clothes.
Kôsoku Sentai Taborenjâ [High Speed Task Force Turboranger] (1989) - 51 episodes
Watabe, Takeshi voices Great Violent Demon Emperor Ragorn. Ishibashi, Masashi plays the evil Dr. Rehda (his last sentai character?). Music composed by Yoshimasa Inoue. OP and ED vocals by Sato, Kenta (Honô, Riki/Red-Turbo). Movie: High Speed Task Force Turboranger (March 8, 1989) I've seen first 5 episodes (including the Super Sentai 10th Anniversary Special), last 4 episodes and the movie. -- Too much like Power Rangers for my taste (high school students fight evil) and I don't see any connection between fairy magic and automobiles. The plot doesn't make sense to me.
Chikyu Sentai Faibuman [Earth Task Force Fiveman] (1990) - 48 episodes
First team made up of brothers and sisters. Opposite of Turboranger, instead of students they're teachers. OP and ED vocals by Kenchi, Suzuki. No movie. I only have the first 4 episodes. -- Like it, wish I had more.
