watching a nice copy of WATARI THE CONQUERER, which is a comp movie of four episodes of Aka Kage, or Red Shadow as we would say. he's fighting the "Swastika Clan" for possession of the Satan Bells.
WATARI, NINJA BOY was very popular as a movie, and since the star was also Ao Kage in Red Shadow, they compiled several episodes into at least three movies and possible a Tai co-production as well (Watari and the Seven Monsters).
more as i watch NINJASCOPE and WATARI AND THE FANTASTICS.
oh yeah, they are dubbed in English!

It's too bad that these weren't picked up by AIP, as they would have been a great companion to THE MAGIC SERPENT. I first heard about these when I received a package of English sales brochures for Toei movies, and one of them was for the three AKAKAGE movies. Then, Toei Video included them in the AKAKAGE Laserdisc sets... Now, we've got the DVDs. Fun stuff!

It's put out by First Look Home Video, a subsidiary of Navarre Corp. But then I consider the BCI Ultraman a boot, so who knows. BCI was a subsidiary of Navarre too. But it is a legit company. I've been scanning backwards through Akakage and at least the last 6 episodes are lacking in any kaiju (I guess they were running low on money by then). Do you remember David if there was much giant monster fu in those movies?

Just arrived in today's mail (along with Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer [the third series starring Stacky Keach in the same role]).

I found a bootlegged English subtitled copy of Watari Ninja Boy (Daininjutsu eiga Watari). That was fun.
