members, i loved the [billy zane] phantom movie. it was period and [more or less] pretty true to the spirit of the lee falk hero. this , the shadow, the rocketeer are my three favorite [pulp -type] movies of late---ralph g

Yes indeed, I agree. I always thought those three would make for a great triple feature matinee.
Unfortunately I still haven't been able to dive into the Phantom serial. I just have this problem with Tom Tyler, he always sounds like he's trying to recover from a groin injury and I can't get past it. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

definately one of the best adaptions of a comic strip to the big screen. there were supposed to be three movies if the first was successful. it's too bad it wasn't.
i like the serial a lot also.

I have to give the serial another try. It seems to be quite fondly reviewed. Maybe someone can hypnotize me so I can get past Tom's voice. I have The Phantom, Phantom of the Air and CAPTAIN MARVEL sitting on my shelf, so it would suck to not get through them for such a dumb reason.

Billy Zane ... The Phantom/Kit Walker Kristy Swanson ... Diana Palmer Treat Williams ... Xander Drax Catherine Zeta-Jones ... Sala (as Catherine Zeta Jones) James Remar ... Quill Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa ... The Great Kabai Sengh Bill Smitrovich ... Uncle Dave Palmer Casey Siemaszko ... Morgan David Proval ... Charlie Zephro Joseph Ragno ... Ray Zephro Samantha Eggar ... Lily Palmer Jon Tenney ... Jimmy Wells Patrick McGoohan ... Phantom's Dad Robert Coleby ... Capt. Philip Horton Al Ruscio ... Police Commissioner Farley Leon Russom ... Mayor Krebs Bernard Kates ... Falkmoore the Butler John Capodice ... Al the Cabby Bo Kane ... Mounted Cop William Jones ... Cycle Cop John Prosky ... Cycle Cop Alan Zitner ... Dr. Fleming Dane Carson ... Cpl. Weeks Chatpong 'Jim' Petchlor ... Zak Dane Farwell ... Breen Jared Chandler ... Styles Radmar Agana Jao ... Guran
what a cool movie. very faithful to the original comic strip, though Guran is younger than he was in the comic strip. anyway, The Phantom has to stop Xander Drax from retrieving the three skulls of Todanga (or something like that) and using them for evil.
lots of action and movie that is just the right length. plenty of humor in the right places as well. the actors are all good, and so is the music.
there were to be three of the movies if this one had been successful. sad, as it's way more entertaining than plenty of the "hero" movies out there these days.
by the way, the Phantom's horse, his name is Hero.
the serial is good, as is CAPTAIN MARVEL. i haven't ever thought of Tom's voice!

It's a shame THE PHANTOM (1996) wasn't a huge hit. It sure deserved to be, as it's a wonderful film. I have the DVD and watch it at least once a year.

It was no hit, ´cause the movie was made for real fans of "me"! Billy Zane played "me" very excellent and Tom Tyler isn´t bad either! His only voice-problem was in the last chapter of Captain Marvel when he held his speech! Tom Tyler was the best with his short dialogues and fast actions!
