nice to see some fans actually acknowledge liking the show. it was castigated for so long, since it was fashionable.

The movie isn't a "pilot" (the initial two-parter with the Riddler actually was), but it was where a lot of the budget came from for things like the Bat Boat. Progressive Ruin had a number of links pertaining to the show recently. www.progressiveruin.com

You just gotta love that oh so obvious sky backdrop they used for the water scenes.By the way according to the audio commentary on the dvd one of the stuntmen was nearly killed filming the climactic submarine fight scene.Despite the fights being done for laughs they still had to treat them seriously.

I think most everyone over the age of 25 or 30 should have fond memories of seeing the Adam West BATMAN TV show either originally or, as i did, everyday after school. I find Batman is a character much like Godzilla- he works on alot of levels. There's also nearly as many interpretations of his character as Godzilla's too! Personally, i enjoy all of them and Bats is my favorite US comicbook hero.

it was on in the afternoon in CO- right up until i started kindergarten. i ran home the first day to watch Batman, and it was on. the second they showed the first episode of The Green Hornet, which, while cool, was NOT Batman.
the next day...
Lucy, or some dumb sitcom. Batman was not seen in CO in live action tv show until the late 80s. no wonder i harbor dislike of sitcoms.

They missed an opportunity to start releasing the series on DVD.

That's a very good point. Why isn't BATMAN on dvd yet? The 70s hero shows are out-WONDER WOMAN and THE HULK is starting now. BATMAN is way better than those! Meanwhile we're getting stupid shows like WHAT'S HAPPENING?, DUKES OF HAZZARD, etc. Not to mention any new show that's on for more than 3 episodes. Just what i need-season 1 of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES or better yet the reality shows that come out-um, hello, presuming the target audience will have watched the show on TV, they already know who wins or whatever! I could get started on a whole rant here about shows that need releasing - BATMAN, GREEN HORNET, the original WILD,WILD WEST,ULTRAMAN (though looks like that will be released, but probably not the dubbed version we all grew up on), SPACE GIANTS, SPECTREMAN,JONNY SOKKO, SPACE GHOST, HERCULOIDS, and all of the H-B 60s hero shows, not the insipid talk show versions, ADV needs to get off it's ass and liscence some good classic anime, granted it's done a fine job with GATCHAMAN and MACROSS, great starts, but we need MAZINGER and it's sequels, RAIDEEN, the uncut Japanese versions of the YAMATO series, not the STAR BLAZERS versions out now, most any Go Nagai show or super robo series from the 70s, you know, when anime was fun!

I was 11 years old when the show debuted, old enough to get a lot of the humor and young enough to still go nuts over the superhero aspects. It was all we could talk about at recess the next day. The cliff-hanging endings between Wednesday and Thursday nights were so much fun!
When this finally comes to DVD, it's gonna be a must-have.

the reasons i've heard about no DVD release of the Batman series have usually been due to a lawsuit between West and Ward over royalties owed them by WB (i think). i've not heard much about it recently. at least we got the Bat serials out on DVD- there's still the 60s Bat-toon, the (much weaker) 70s Bat-toon as well to release.
here's hoping!

I hadn't heard about Ward and West's lawsuit. I thought there was some kind of ruling about royalities on shows made before 1970 or something. Maybe it was an earlier year, but i think it was 1970, because I remember it shut alot of 60s stars out of royalities. You're right about the other Batgoodies being released though. The serials were very nice to see and I would really like to see the Filmation toons as well. Even the previous 4 films have been re-released in nice 2 disc sets. I don't particularly care about the 2 Shumacher films, but I really like Tim Burton's 2, especially the original 1989 BATMAN. And the very best presentation of Batman in any motion picture form -animated, live-action or otherwise is now completely released on disc-the WB animated series from the 90s. This was probably the best superhero cartoon ever, hands down! Well, except maybe for the Fleischer Superman cartoons of the 40s of course. Heck, they are even releasing the current animated series- THE BATMAN- now. I have to admit that I have come to like this show alot. I hated it at first, especially the redesigns of many of the foes, but I love the backgrounds and especially the way they draw Bats himself with small ears for a change and that huge jagged flowing cape. They even have Adam West in the voice cast as the Mayor of Gotham. Like I said earlier-Batman's character is nearly as pliable as Godzilla's and this current version is just one more incarnation.

I have read that Warner Bros. and Fox are still trying to hash out some kind of deal, since DVD and VHS were not covered under the original contract.
Adam West has gone on record as saying he would participate in an official DVD release if/when it happens.

well, i'm sure it will come out sooner or later- be better if they could at least the remaining cast for participation. i would love to have heard Frank Gorshin commentary on his episodes.

Yvonne Craig would probably be brutal in her dvd commentary.Anyone else see her when she appeared on FX[back when the channel was worth watching]with Adam West and Frank Gorshin with then unknown tv show host Jeff Probst? It was during an anniversay show and she was not too kind with the series. She said that she at first thought she was cast because she could ride a motorcycle but that years later she realized she was cast because "she had a cartoony voice".

I actually spoke with her briefly many years ago at a comic convention. She seemed to have generally kind things to say about the series. It wasn't her dream job, but it did put food on the table, and for that and a few other things, she's still in the public eye, so to speak. During her question & answer period at the convention, amid mostly Batman-related audience stuff, I rocked the boat a bit when I asked her about her involvement in Larry Buchanan's uber-schlocky "Mars Needs Women." That gave her pause, but she related some really great stories. She was a classy lady, and my god is she still drop-dead gorgeous! Whew!!

i have an autograph of hers as well, part of her proceeds went to cancer research, and since my mom's a survivor, i didn't mind at all paying for it. she was very gracious.
they so need to release this show on DVD soon.

Yvonne was working on a book when i talked to her way back when. i had asked her about an interview, but they told me she was saving the good stuff for a book. i don't know if she ever published it though.
