The Incredible Hulk (1977)
Bill Bixby - Dr. David Bruce Banner
Susan Sullivan - Dr. Elaina Marks
Jack Colvin - Jack McGee
Lou Ferrigno - The Hulk
This is the tv movie which spawned a weekly series.
After the death of his wife, in an automobile accident, Dr. David Bruce Banner becomes obssesed with discoverng how some people have been able to tap hidden strength to save their loved ones, while he failed to save his wife. He eventually disccovers that sun spots generating high levels of gamma radiation in Earth's atmosphere is responsable and exsposes himself to gamma rays. He sets the machine for 30,000 units for 15 seconds not realising that the lab's enginner had tweeked the system so the new maximum is 1,900,000 units. The result of this over exsposure to gamma rays is that when David Banner becomes angry he transforms into a green skinned, green haired creature with superhuman strength, endurance and healing power.
The Hulk appears three times.
The film is sort of a cross between Dr. Jekyl and Frankenstein.
The Incredible Hulk: "Married" aka "The Bride of the Incredible Hulk" from the weekly series which ran from 1978-1982.
Mariette Hartley - Dr. Caroline Fields
Meeno Peluce - The Boy
The weekly series combines Dr. Jekyl and The Fugitive. Dr Banner travels the country trying to find a a way to stop from transforming into the Hulk when angry. Reporter Jack McGee searching for the Hulk is never far behind him. There is one difference. McGee thinks Banner is dead so he doesn't know he actually chasing the doctor around the country. I remeber that when I origanlly watched this series I wanted the Hulk to kill for once. I despised Jack McGee. Did he ever realise that he caused the death of Dr. Elaina Marks not the Hulk?
Apparently showed in two parts as part of the weekly series, this Hulk tv movie has Dr. David Banner seek out a pyschiatrist, Dr. Caroline Fields, who uses hypnosis to help patients control disease. He wants her to help him to keep from transforming into the hulk. As the title implies Banner and Fields eventually get married, but not until the end. Dr. Fields suffers from a terminal illness. When she learns of the hulks incredible rate of healing she thinks tissue from the green monster could lead to a cure for her. Because dragging a wife along with him wouldn't work its not hard to guess how this story ends.
In hypnotic fantasies Banner and the Hulk appear on screen together as the doctor imagines himself capturing the creature. There are four occasions in which Banner actually becomes the Hulk.
Fortunantly there was only once brief scene with that reporter. Meeno Peluce as the unnamed boy should have been in the credits before Jack Colvin.
I don't really know how these tv movies compare to the comics but I like Bill Bixby as Dr. Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk.
The pilot and Married are together on a single DVD. I rented it from Netflix. A 6 disc set of 1 hour episodes is also available as are several other tv movies from the 80s.
