Eric Dodson - The Major
Charles Lloyd-Pack - Vicar
Richard Pearson - Doctor Haydock
Thick Wilson - The Mayor
Pat Nye - Mayoress
Peter Woodthorpe - Scout Master
Two rival Hollywood actresses visit the small English town of St Mary Mead and although each would chearfully strangle the other its a local woman who ends up dead, poison in her drink. When the police are stupped its up to Miss Jane Marple to solve the murder.
For some reason this film was played as a mystery/comedy rather than a straight murder mystery. A number of changes were made in the story, including makeing Insepctor Craddock a nephew of Miss Marple's.
For most of her career Angela Lansbury played wicked women so it was a change in character to have her play the heroine. Of course she went on to play mystery writer/ameteur very *friendly* personh Jesica Fletcher in the tv series "Murder She Wrote". Geraldine Chaplin is the daughter of Charlie Chaplin.
If you like a more light hearted murder mystery than this is an enjoyable film. Elizabeth Taylor and Kim Novack get to exchange to some great insults.
For a more series version see the 1992 made for television version starring Joan Hickson as Jane Marple.
