i'm watching SANTO Y BLUE DEMON CONTRA LOS MONSTRUOS and boy this is a fun movie! thank goodness for subs, since my Espanol is only asi asi.
i do have a few questions that i might have missed the answers to- if this is a real vampire, the mad doc has a powerful ring to get him out in the daylight since he doesn't disintegrate. Hedi Blue is very attractive.
the cyclops monster- is it ever explained where it was from? frozen in ice, but very cool. and what's the deal with the little spud monster?
anyway, this can be a catch all for various lucha movies. i'll be watching more soon!

Santo in THE TREASURE OF DRACULA
Santo ... Santo, el Enmascarado de Plata Aldo Monti ... Count Drácula Noelia Noel ... Luisa Roberto G. Rivera ... Dr. Kur Carlos Agostí ... Dr. César Supulveda Alberto Rojas ... Perico Pili González ... Paquita Jorge Mondragón ... Professor Soler Fernando Mendoza ... Professor Van Roth Javier Rizo Carlos Suárez ... Ratón Victor Manuel Gonzalez Guillermo Hernández ... Wrestler X (as Lobo Negro)
a very entertaining and somewhat amusing Santo movie. the movie has time travel and vampires, and some hot babes. what more can you ask for? it's kind of serialized, with two distinct parts- the first a retelling of DRACULA and the second how our heroes deal with the undead.
they do get the "three bites to make a vampire" even! the movie is supposed to be in color, but the DVD is in B/W, which is how it was when i first taped in off tv back in the early 90s.

The cyclops and the spud monster were recycled from THE SHIP OF MONSTERS though no explanation is given to wether or not they are the same monsters. The cyclops is noticably altered. In SHIP he had a large tuft of hair running down the back and fur from his waist down, resembling the cyclops in the Harryhausen Sinbad film.In VS LOS MONSTRUOS he has the hair and fur removed, sadly revealing the dilapited zipper running down the back of the suit.

SANTO Y BLUE DEMON CONTRA DRAC AND THE WOLFMAN is 100 minutes long! what were they thinking? the title is pretty long as well. i find it interesting that there are no crowd shots in the lucha scenes, just piped in noises.

Sadly a complete copy of this film is yet to turn up on video. All the releases have a fight scene Santo has with three werewolves missing from it.

you mean the dang thing would be even longer? when does this missing fight take place?
i'm about 20 minutes in, and the sacrifice to revive Dracula is kind of gruesome! good resurrection scene, though. Drac looks noble enough for this movie.

The fight takes place after the rest of the cast is captured by Drac and the Wolfman.Santo rushes out of the house and is searching for the monsters' house when he gets attacked by three werewolf lookouts.Santo kills two but one manages to escape to report to Drac, who in turn has him thrown into a pit of spikes as a "Reward".Don't shoot the messenger,Huh Drac?

CURSE OF THE AZTEC MUMMY (1957)
Ramón Gay ... Dr. Eduardo Almada Rosa Arenas ... Flor / Xochi (as Rosita Arenas) Crox Alvarado ... Pinacate / El Ángel Luis Aceves Castañeda ... Dr. Krupp Jorge Mondragón ... Dr. Sepúlveda Arturo Martínez ... Tierno Emma Roldán ... María, the housekeeper Julián de Meriche ... Comandante de Policia Salvador Lozano Jaime González Quiñones ... Pepe Almada Ángel Di Stefani ... Popoca, the mummy Jesús Murcielago Velázquez ... Krupp's Henchman Enrique Yáñez ... Krupp's Henchman Guillermo Hernández ... Krupp's Henchman (as Lobo Negro) Alberto Yáñez ... Krupp's Henchman
before Santo, there was the Angel! who looks remarkably like El Santo. i think this was out before Santo made his first movie, but i am not sure. it's one of the many Aztec mummy movies, which starred most of the same cast. i've seen the Robot one (had the cheap-o VHS from years ago) but this one has both the English dub and English subs on it.
The Angel doesn't indulge in any lucha matches, and says he is just a crime fighter. of course, he looks like a luchador!
good movie, nice presentation.

This is basically the producers getting away with using the Santo mask.I always wondered how Santo reacted to this. The Aztec Mummy plotline was later recycled for the film SANTO IN DRACULA'S TREASURE.It has alot of the same elements.Gray haired and trim mustached scientist [Ramon Gay/Carlos Agosti] silver masked hero[Angel/Santo] nerdy sidekick[Pinacate/Perico] damsel reliving a past life, masked villain, revived supernatural menace looking for past love, car chase where the police show up and the villain is unmasked, and the monster is destroyed when his lair is exploded with dynamite. The Santo version is better since it's Santo for crying out loud.

Santo ... Santo (as Santo? el Enmascarado de Plata) Lorena Velázquez ... Thorina, queen of the vampires María Duval ... Diana Orlof Jaime Fernández ... Insp. Carlos Augusto Benedico ... Prof. Orlof Javier Loya ... Jorge, Diana's fiance Ofelia Montesco ... Tandra, vampire priestess Fernando Osés ... Vampire Guillermo Hernández ... Vampire Nathanael León ... Vampire (as Leon Moreno) Ricardo Adalid ... Detective at Party Cavernario Galindo ... Himself Ray Mendoza ... Himself (as Ray Mendoza 'El Indio') Alejandro Cruz ... Himself (as Alejandro Cruz 'Black Shadow') Bobby Bonales ... Himself
watching this one for the first time in several years. the first part is really creepy and atmospheric. Santo himself doesn't even appear for about 30 minutes.
he's also far stronger than than regular men- two vampires wipe out about 5 men, but Santo can fight them off and not get hurt.

My main gripe with this movie is it seems the cameramen were afraid to get hurt. The cameras are placed way too far during the fight scenes and they forgot to put in the long lenses on the cameras. So most of the fights are filmed from about what could be considered the 20th row of a wrestling match.Talk about dropping the ball.

i did not even notice that! it's a little long as well, they could take about 7 minutes out and really get it moving.
has anyone else seen this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdSuTVLBzBg
it's pretty amazing.

That's really cool-SANTO VS THE RING VILLIANS is a really good movie! I've seen several subtitled lucha movies on eBay but haven't had the cash to pick any up.

SANTO VS VILLAINS OF THE RING was sort of a precursor to the multi lucha hero films of the 70's like CHAMPIONS OF JUSTICE.Of course for this film they created generic masked men and though I am not positive I believe they were played by Nathaneal Leon Frankenstein and Antonio Montoro.Montoro actually doubles for Ray Mendoza in the first fight scene so he was on the set of the film.I believe he played El Enmascarado Negro with Frankenstein playing El Enmascarado Gris.

that film has one big flaw that has always stuck in my craw. The cops bring in Batwoman to solve the case of murdered wrestlers because in her guise as female wrestler she won't arouse suspicions yet in the very next scene the cops essentially parade the Batwoman in front of reporters and photographers who report on her involvment. The plot just breaks down from one scene to the next. It's a shame since this film had one of the better Gillman imitation suits out there. Better than most American made Gillman wannabes.

Blue Demon Blanca Sánchez Marta Elena Cervántes Ramón Bugarini Sergio Virel Jessica Munguía Fernando Osés Nathanael León (as Frankenstein) René Barrera Enrique Ramírez Vicente Lara (as Vicente Lara 'Cacama') Juan Garza Marco Antonio Arzate José Luis Fernández Octavio Muñoz Jose E. Vergara A.
imagine finding this gem subtitled, and then seeing it has flying saucer footage from Plan 9 From Outer Space at the beginning! and it's just that way.
Blue Demon must stop spiders from space from eating people on Earth. it sure is a different kind of lucha movie!

Alejandro Cruz "Black Shadow" actually doubles for Blue Demon for the harder fith sequences and even some in ring work in that match. Blue gets in some close ups and alot of one punch knockouts but it's pretty distracting since unless you're five years old the switch from Blue Demon to Alejandro Cruz is pretty damned noticable.Yeah the film is plagued with stock footage but it gets points for it's gritty black and white footage and the fac that one of the main characters gets strung up on a web then cut open and made to bleed out.
