Holy crap, I just found out Mil Mascaras' latest two movies, Mil Mascaras Vs The Aztec Mummy (AKA Mil Mascaras: Resurrection) and ACADEMY OF DOOM! were filmed in my home town of Columbia MO. Why? I don't know. But for me that is totally cool!
MM vs the Aztec Mummy went into very limited release at the end of last month. The screen grabs of it look great, can't wait for the DVD to hit.

Ok, more Santo movies watched. Santo: Infraterrestre (2000) Hmm not bad. It has a made for scifi channel sort of look to it, but that is probably understandable. The first half is a little talking head heavy. There are conversations that take twice as much dialog as is needed to get the ideas and plot going. The fights are pretty nice especially compared to most of the Lucha Horror movies I've seen so far. There's some good camera work and decent editing that keeps it from looking like a one camera, semi-clumsy wrestling match. The DVD itself is great and packed with a lot of extras, with a Son of Santo interview, outtakes, a couple of behind the scenes of the special effects shorts and other stuff like that. They used a pretty good mix of practical effects and CGI.
Santo and the Wax Museum an oldie but a goodie. I actually find this to be more successful than vs The Vampire Women in creating atmosphere and a sense of the Universal monster movie vibe.

An interesting tidbit about WAX MUSEUM is they didn't try to pad the film out with musical numbers though the in-ring wrestling segments do tend to run a bit long.
