Every time I get a $1 dvd at the 99 Cents store, I generally find that I should have gotten 10 more of the same thing, and when I go back, someone has usually grabbed them. There was a double-movie disc with "THE SLIME PEOPLE" and "CREATURE" on it...turned out that this was a pretty good deal for a buck. Both movies looked fine, and "CREATURE" was in stereo. Nice.
There were some GUMBY dvds for a dollar, got two of those and should have gotten ten. Turns out these were public-domain versions and featured all the original music cues. The expensive Rhino dvds had mostly newly-composed, not-the-same music cues because of a licensing issue! Now everyone is looking for the dollar versions and can't find them.

At walmart they had some interesting $1 DVDs, but stuff I already have. One was 3 or 4 eps of the TV Flash Gordon from the '50's. The other was either episodes or the digest-movies of some Rocky Jones, Space Ranger.

They finally got some new double feature discs at the dollar store. I picked up a Barbara Steele double feature of TERROR CREATURES FROM THE GRAVE and LONG HAIR OF DEATH. I already have Terror Creatures, but not Long Hair. It was quite good, if rather long and kind of confusing in spots. They also had a Gammera the Invincible and Gamera vs Gaos disc, Yongary and Gappa and Prehistoric Women and either Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women or Women of the Prehistoric Planet, I'm not sure which Prehistoric Women movie was the second feature there as well as a whole carton of new Kung fu double features that i didn't a chance to look through.

It's a chain called Yankee One Dollar Store, which i believe is only here in the Northeast and the discs are from eastwest. They have a website- www.eastwestdvd.com , though I just checked it and it is currently under construction. I went back this past weekend and picked up the Prehistoric Women/Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women disc, a Vincent Price double feature of The Bat and Shock and kung fu disc with Swordswoman in White(with the opening credits cut off) and Story of Red Temple Lily, both of which look to be from the late 70s early 80s. Let me know if you can't find them in your area, I can probably pick some up for you.

Well there were some stores nearby that sold eastwest but now they just seem happy to just let their HUNDREDS of unsold kung fu discs languish in their bins rather than get some of the newer and more commercial discs.

Saw a thread at the Classic Horror Film Board about Big Lots selling DVDs for $3.00 a pop and decided to try mine out.
My first haul (about 3 weeks ago) consisted of:
SWAMP THING (1982) FROGS (1972) THE BROOD (1979) THE MAGIC SWORD (1962) THE GHOUL (1933) THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (1960) ROLLERBALL (1975) A BUCKET OF BLOOD (1959) THE FOG (1980) THE SNOWMAN (1982) - wonderful, animated Christmas tale.
About a week later, I went back and found:
"X" THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES (1963) INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) IN COLD BLOOD (1967) HOWLING II: YOUR SISTER IS A WEREWOLF (1985)
Now, just today, I stopped back in and got:
JACK THE GIANT KILLER (1962) SCANNERS (1981) - picked up a copy for my son as I already owned it.
Pretty sweet stuff for 3 bucks. Great quality discs too - many of which are Midnight Movies. And they seem to be re-stocking and getting some different titles in each time.

My local Big Lots never has anything good. People post in gaming forums that Big Lots has PC games cheap but they never have them either.

My local big lots had some stuff that might be of interest to modern anime fans but not much else. The only thing of interest to me was THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN which there was only one and it was busted open. None of the cool stuff you listed.

It does seem to be hit or miss from what other people are saying too. Certain Big Lots may do some restocking, but it's hard to know which ones. Mine has yet to have THE ANGRY RED PLANET (as far as I know), which a couple found at their Big Lots. I'm lucky that my work schedule sometimes takes me past mine, so it's worth checking out every couple weeks.

I've picking up some awesome deals from oldies.com
I got a harryhausen boxed set of 20 million miles to earth, It Came From Beneath the Sea and Earth vs Flying saucers for 12 bucks, this also comes with a thick booklet excerpting the chapters on these 3 movies from harryhausen's animated life book with TONS of great stills
The tin case set of the original King Kong that comes with a repro of the opening night program and 5 postcard movie poster repros from 15 bucks-this was originally like 50 bucks!! The two disc set is amazing too, the movie has never looked this good, and the re created spider pit sequence on the second disc is excellently done by the FX crew of PJs remake-too bad they didn't do anything this faithful to the original in the remake!
Man from Planet X for 3 bucks!!
The Aztec Mummy 3 movie box set for 8 bucks!!
They also have Ultraman sets 1 and 2 for 10 bucks each which I am picking up next.
