i've not heard anything about the late Miss Wray at all, but i sincerely hope they talked to her or recorded something from her for the disc- she's pretty much it that they could have talked to. here's hoping.

So you still won't spill the beans about the dvd extras huh?
Where did I leave that Megaloman voodoo doll?
Better yet why don't I just send Mugar the Conqueror of the Universe to clip your toenails real short! That'sll loosen your tongue!

The ChiSox have always been one of my favorite teams inspite of their jerky boy owner. I liked Ozzie as a player and you can't argue results. I hope the Sox win it all. I wonder if Big Hurt will get at least one pinch hit or something.

I got the KONG disc for Christmas too and it looks beautiful! I've seen alot of films restored and digitally remastered and many times I think it's just alot of PR bull, but not in this case! The extras are really great as well, despite Peter Jackass,um,Jackson popping up all the time. In all fairness to Jackson, his remake of the spider pit scene was excellent! Now if only they had shown this much insight in making their remake... I mean, it's a given that CGI has to be used in any mainstream big budget movie nowadays for monsters, but there was no reason at all that the CGI Kong couldn't have looked like the original 1933 Kong. That alone would have brought my opinion of the film up several notches!

Here's a little thing I just fiddled around with:

King Kong not only still works, amazing for how old it is, but it's still a pretty crazy, audacious movie. The running time is perfect--it's neither too slow nor too fast. It's just right and it's a nice fantasy world.

I totally agree, Amph. It's basically a perfect movie. Some more fiddling around... Just felt like having some fun with PhotoShop. Went for an artsy in-your-face look. I've never seen (nor want to) the colorized movie version which was floating around in the '80s.

I suggest seeing the colorized version if you can. I always liked it, and, as is demonstrated in your colorized image, the colorization gives special definition to the scenes...it allows the mind to separate the foliage from the dirt from the animals without doing so much work, and so in certain ways it makes it easier to see what's going on. They also used a very fantasylike pastel palette that seems to add to the dreamy quality of everything.
Not a replacement for the original version--oh God no!--but I enjoy it as another "way" to see the film.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to see it once out of curiosity. I was really against colorization back then and still basically am, though I have gotten pretty used to Laurel & Hardy's MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS in color. I think they originally intended to film it in color anyhow, but for some reason (budget perhaps) didn't. I'm not sure a B&W version of MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS is even available now. That's not good.
As for the recent colorizing of Three Stooges shorts, the process has improved from the ones I've seen, but I still don't need it. I just want all the shorts released in chronological box sets on DVD.
I can understand that. If it turns up I'll give it a look, though they may have retired the colorized KONG. Man, the B&W print on the DVD from over a year ago, while still not perfect, was a definite improvement. The opening shots of New York in particular are much clearer than I'd ever seen before.

Yeah...I really like that new King Kong 2-disc DVD set. It seemed like everyone was waiting a long time to see the film get that kind of release. And now that it's digital in a format that so many people buy, the original black and white version is much more preserved. It's actually the colorized version that is hard to find now! Very rare.
I have March of the Wooden Soldiers colorized also, and the newer colorized version of Night of the Living Dead, which is another one of those things...it doesn't replace the original film, but what a neat, weird experience it is to see it in color like that.
One colorized movie I bought did not seem to benefit at all from the process...a bad match...and that was "House on Haunted Hill." The job they did was okay, but the film seemed to suffer from the process somehow...it was unpleasant to watch, and I sold the DVD really fast after I had looked at it.

Yep, certain ones still work best in B&W for shadows and moody atmosphere, and not just in the horror/monster genre - film noir mysteries and gangster flicks in particular.
