I've seen a couple of these (well, scenes from two and one in its entirety) recently. Last night I saw "Komodo" which was about large Komodo Dragons terrorizing an island off the coast of S. Carolina. The movie tried to put a lot of focus on character, but ends up being too leisurely paced (good effort though). The special FX were really good, done by Phil Tippet of Jurassic Park fame.
I saw the climaxes to "Arachnid" and "Spiders." Arachnid appeared to be the better of the two; the spider was more imposing, it utilized good animatronics and stop-motion, and the suspense was better. "Spiders" had the feel of a TV movie (the generic music gives it away...almost always does) and has some bad CGI to it. I might watch it later on Sci-fi Channel.

I wouldn't care to run into an average sized Komodo dragon.

me either- their saliva is so full of bacteria that it would be bad to get bit by one- worse than most poisonous snakes.

I believe "Spiders" was directed by Sam Firstenberg, of "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" and "Ninja III: The Domination" fame?
