For anyone who may not have the DVD yet (I might have been the only one up until 15 minutes ago!), Walmart has the original Columbia/Tristar disc for $7.50, half of what it goes for on the internet. Good thing my son wanted a Hot Wheels set!

not a bad price, but i just can't go to Sprawlmart due to various reasons, the destruction of main street being one of them.
but the movie is pretty good.

I gotta ask
THE DESTRUCTION OF MAIN STREET?I guess you live in a comic book/cartoon/b-monster movie world.
I never thought there was actually a real life Main street.

It's a double-edged sword for me. On one hand, I'm in a very strong labor union (Teamsters) and I don't care for Walmart's iron-handed tactics with employees trying to organize. On the other hand, I'm the sole source of income in my household, taking care of five other people aside from myself, so I really can't afford to be idealistic when it comes to shopping.
My options are limited anyway; every other store in town is a franchise like Blockbuster, Strawberries, or Tommy K's, and they charge outrageous prices for movies. There aren't any other stores that offer everything else Walmart does, and the ones that went out of business were the same business model as Walmart. Before Walmart, we had Caldor's Department store, and they did business just like Walmart: buying cheaper items produced overseas, etc. I'd like to support every local independent small business in my town, but I can't afford to. There's a small grocery store a half mile from my house, and they've been in town since I've been alive, but their prices are 25-50% higher than A&P, IGA, Stop & Shop, and Sam's Club. I'd be broke if my wife shopped there for all our needs, and I get no pleasure out of making somebody else rich. I wanna be rich!
I can say, at the very least, that we support a local package store (whoo-hoo!) and a great meat market. Anyway, a thread for DVDs on the cheap is a great idea. I always enjoy sharing a good bargain with everyone here. It'd be nice to have one spot to post and look for bargains.

By the way, maybe where our Walmart is helps me to not despise them like many people do. They built ours way off Route 1 on a piece of land that was vacant forever, next to an abandoned shirt factory (my aunt used to work there), up an industrial road behind a huge commuter parking lot and one of the crummiest apartment complexes in town, up near I-95 (starting to sound silly, but it's all true). We still have a Sesame Street-like section of Main Street about a mile long. If they put it on a nice section of Main Street, I'd probably have a different take on it.

Thanks for the heads up. I just went to Walmart and got it for said $7.50.
Even in Northern California, that place is redneck hog-heaven. I don't like Walmart for their employee treatment and just dislike going into one in general.
But for Jason and the Argonauts, I could do it.

On the subject of bargains, Horrormovies.com is a cool site that has a ton of cheapie DVDs (some good films, some awful). They have quite a few for only $.99, and a bunch priced under $6. Nice site to deal with too. I bought a copy of The Cremators (movie with the alien fireball as the monster, from the '70s) for $2.88, and the guy at the site (forget his name, sorry) gave it to me for free (charging only a small shipping cost) since he was offering it as a freebie with other purchases. He didn't have to do that, and I'd like to throw some business his way (along with some bargains you may like)., so I figured I'd mention the site.
I would've put this in a new thread for bargains, but I'm not quite sure where that would fit. I figured I'd leave that up to you, David.

LOL, my own Walmart story was that one day, I had just walked into the store and a woman in customer service, was yelling so loud everyone near could hear as she said in a frustrated way "this is lousy service and I will never shop here again!!" And she stormed off! I thought wow! Now every time I think of Walmart or that name being mentioned, I have to think of that woman!
Anyway, I did see "Jason and the Argonauts" on sale for 9.99 in other places such as Borders. Not only that, but they also have other Columbia releases like "From Here to Eternity" and "Bridge on the River Kwai" listed at that same price. Must be a Columbia sale.

Visit This Place seems like a good suggestion to me for a bargain movie thread.
