A small town is plaqued by disapperances which prove to be caused by a giant gila monster.
For the most part the monster just walks around sticking its tonque out. Until the end when it breaks into a barn its not even seen chasing its victims.
The hero of this film is teenage automechanic who wants to be a singer/song writer. He helps the local sheriff investigate the dissapearance of a 19 year old boy and girl, the first human victims of the monster.
"The Giant Gila Monster" was produced by the same company that did "Attack of The Killer Shrews". Executive Producer Gordon McLendon was also EP of "Attack of The Killer Shrews" in which he played Dr. Radford Baines.
Producer Ken Curtis acted in many westerns, probably his best known role was Festus Haggen in the TV version of "Gunsmoke". He also produced "Attack of The Killer Shrews" in which he played Jerry Farrell. Ray Kellogg also directed "Attack of The Killer Shrews". Shrews is the better film.
The songs performed by Don Sullivan were songs he actually wrote.
"The Giant Gila Monster" is included on "Sci-Fi Classics" DVD along with "Creature from the Haunted Sea" and an episode of "Flash Gordon".
