The 2.5 minute King Kong trailer is up and running at kingkongmovie.comLooks pretty good... though I suffer from thinking a CGI kong looks an awful lot like a CGI Mighty Joe. Meh on that. More stylization and less trying to make it look real. The sets look amazing though.

i've just seen the picture, and it's not very memorable- just an old bull ape. haven't seen the trailer yet, maybe later tonight.
ok, just watched the trailer. it's ok, since trailers usually ALWAYS look better than the movies they want us to see. but Jack Black is still Jack Black, at least maybe he won't swear through this. the rest of the cast looks decent. Kong does just look like an ape. how dull. the rest, well, it looks good, but like i said, trailers are very misleading.

I just watched it too and have mixed feelings. I liked Adrien Brody in THE VILLAGE, but he seems an odd choice for Driscoll.
Universal's abandoned, Jim Danforth '70s remake planned to star Peter Falk as Carl Denham. Now that might have been cool, complete with stop-motion. Too bad his version wasn't made instead of kino.

It'll be nice to see a movie with a giant gorilla that actually looks a good deal like an actual gorilla. As long as there are no scenes of Kong vomiting a meal he particularly enjoyed so that he may enjoy it once again, I'll be happy.

Is it my imagination or does Kong look like a volkswagon?

Hah! I noticed that to!
Anyway, just having seen the trailer, it looked too dark in some scenes. As for the dinos, well, very interesting, but it feels like nothing that I haven't seen before. Then we have Kong himself. Yes, he does look like a big ape and nothing more. Did he have any saber-toothed fangs? I didn’t notice. Peter Jackson has said he was going for a more realistic approach to the animal, which I have to question. It's fantasy movie afterall, why go for realism? And the color I feel takes away from something. Shooting it in B/W, much like in "Sin City" would have given it a nostalgic look. Heck, I wouldn't have mind stop-motion critter every know and then either, but hey what do I know.

I think the colors and cinematography are looking great. I'm glad to see those lush jungle glass paintings recreated pretty faithfully into color dimensional models. That can't be an easy task! It's because of seeing how great the sets look that I'm let down by Kongs mundane look.
Q: How many laughably weak strawman arguments does it take before you give up on a conversation? A: Count em on the MZ kong thread... that's how many.

that is so true. i'm just astounded by anyone these days thinking because a trailer is exciting and well made that the movie will be the same way. especially Godzilla fans, since we were burned once before with exciting trailers and a dreadful film.
all i know is that IF Kong lacks his mythic quality and is just another animal, pretty as this movie may be, it won't even come close to matching the original.
i mean, come on, how many "real" apes are going to fall in love with any human woman?

After seeing it a couple of times now, I still stand by what I said earlier. Some scenes look to dark (although that's probably my monitor), and other scenes don't look any different from what I haven't seen before. And I see nothing wrong with questioning the look of King Kong either.
The verdict - well, I just have to wait to see the whole thing to give it a proper critique. What disses me of the most, or rather what I find the most humorous, is that some, after watching this 2 minute trailer, have already declared it better than the original! Well, my reading on that is that they aren't really Kong fans as they are die-hard Peter Jackson fans who will like anything this director does. Heck, I encountered one such fan, who’s made that declaration but has yet to see the original!

Like I've said there are people out there who will automatically say a movie sucks just because it's old.

any fan that hasn't seen the original and proclaims this one better is a complete and utter moron.
that's an easy call.

Who has said that? That's just retarded, if you ask me. It's the general consensus among modern-day movie-goers. The remake is going to be better than the original, no matter what. That's what everyone is saying about CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, which I haven't seen yet. BATMAN BEGINS too, although I must say, that was a DAMN GOOD movie. People these days just don't care about what they didn't live through, or in the case of movies, didn't grow up watching.
Anyway, saw the trailer when I went to go see WAR OF THE WORLDS (another good movie, mind you). Um, well I want to like it. The idea of a new Kong movie has always sounded peachy to me, so I'll try not to be too condescending. The effects look great, but as everyone else pointed out, Kong should look like Kong. Yeah, he's a giant ape, but he's also a character in the movie. That's something that hasn't been done right since the original movie. It's not enough to only have the body motions. So that's a minus, atleast until I see the movie. I'm gonna cut Jack Black some slack (uh.....;D ). We haven't seen him in anything other than screw-ball comedies, so his talent as an actor has yet to be showcased. All in all, the trailer is not enough for me. I gotta see the film.

Real gorilla's are plant eaters and nonagressive unless threatend and even then they would run away if possible (most animals are like that). No reason to assume an extra large one would be any different.

very true, which is why Kong should be MORE than just a gorilla. this one just looks too normal.

And when do we all start bashing Mr Black?
Ok so he MIGHT put in a good performance soIll wait on this.Though I still feel the film is more of a JURASSIC PARK sequel.Does anyone really need to see raptors again?
