Now THAT is TRULY a spectacular announcement!
I really appreciate Criterion's efforts to release these special editions of the lower-budget, more obscure science fiction films.

It's funny, I ran across a "criterion message board" and they are really lamenting the fact that Criterion spent time and money on this set. I found it really funny and ironic that they would want to be so snobbish about this, acting like they really know something about film history and what should have serious restoration and extras treatment. Seem like the same type of people who will cling to an "art scene" but not have any talent, but because they wear a beany and black spandex they call themselves artists. But when you push them on something, all they can do is go "uuuuh uuuuhhh uhhhh" because they don't know smeg about what they are posing in. Very probably none of them know who Danforth, Allen or even Muren are, much less Forry Ackerman and what their contributions to the history of film special effects are/were. Those factors DO make Equinox a very significant part of movie effects history, even if it's not directed by Kurosawa or Wells. Sorry, this isn't really a rant because I can't even be mad that there's stupid people in the world. I've gotten used to that. I just honestly find it ironically funny that I found another cluster of clueless posers. duhhhh

i read that one a few days ago, and it is a good review. they don't make the film out to be great, but they also realize it's place in history now.
i should be getting my copy sometime next week.

I should be getting this from Netflix this week and am quite looking forward to it! I never got to see this one as a kid, which is too bad, but I watched it alot on AMC a few years ago. I love the cool monsters and the horror/Lovecraft/Satanic feel of the movie. It's kind of creepy and definitely similar, purposely or not, to THE EVIL DEAD.

watching this movie now, with the commentary from the Jacks (Woods and Harris) and they are very informative, not only about the movie, but about the history of movies like this. they are very well spoken, and really like each other and the movie.
