The histprical epic starring Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Tony Leung, Zhang Zi Yi, and Maggie Cheung is finally making it's way to the States. Thanks to Quentin Tarrantino, who is paying to distribute the film. I have this on DVD, but my subtitles work when it wants to. It will be nice to see this on the big screen, and be able to read the subtitles. The fight scenes are amongst the best and most beautiful I have ever seen, and this is one film you will want to see.(Well, Megs might not, as there is some wirefu, similar, but way better than Crouching Tiger)

If I hadn't seen Jet in a million other human yo-yo epics I'd probably see this. However, let me know how you like it Chad. Wires have their place.

Luckily for me, I haven't seen Jet in hardly anything. So I am looking forward to this.
I've seen the trailers and it's looks quite astonishing. I suspect, we will see Matrix-style fighting, but in good circumstances it can work, so I hope it will be great!

I'm glad to see Miramax FINALLY release the film here,&I believe I read somewhere that they DIDN'T tamper with it(HUH?!?The premiere butchers of Asian movies actually released an Asian film intact? Will wonders never cease? ) ''Arrest that creature!''-General Ursus(James Gregory),''BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES''

See I had heard there were zero plans to release it here. That was why I got my damn DVD, where the subttitles work about every ninth sentence, makes it hard to follow. To tell you how great the film is though, you don't really need to understand what is going on to be enthralled in the beautiful martial arts scenes.

I've read it was cut by about 30 minutes, but since I've no idea how long either version runs that's all I can report.

Ah, never got to see it in the theatre, but I found a DVD player where the subtitles work. The movie is so kick ass, but I don't mind Wire Fu.

I rented the DVD. Didn't have any problems with the subtitles, except the army's chanting wasn't always subtitled. And there was a minor translation error. In the library scene "bookcases" should have been "scrollcases". Scrolls and books may serve the same purpose, but they are not the same objects.
Interesting story. Any of it true?. At one point I wasn't sure where the plot was going. I was glad that my assessement of the king turned out to be the correct one in the end. The fight scenes were too over the top for me. And I could have done without the final scene between Snow and Broken Sword.

It's ironic that Zone Fighter says the fighting is over the top. The choreographer was Ching Siu-Tung, who is absolutely notorious for going over the top with the special FX and wire effects in his movies. This movie, actually, is almost tame by comparison to a lot of his wuxia films from the 1980s and 1990s, like Butterfly and Sword, the Swordsman movies, and the Heroic Trio. His choreography here is more accessible to mainstream Americans.

No real martial arts? I think that's a bit of an overstatement. You could at least count Jet Li and Donnie Yen's sword vs. spear fight. The speed and precision they show would require real martial arts mastery.
