I don't know whether you're aware of it, but at the moment AnimEigo offers a so called Zatoichi Collector's Giftset containing 7 Zatoichi films. I preordered mine from DVDSoon some months ago and just received it. The DVDs are great, featuring gorgeous anamorphic widescreen transfers, Japanese audio and very well written subtitles.

I only know Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo and Zatoichi At Large so far, and I like them both. I am very curious about the other films!

I had a nice evening watching Zatoichi: The Outlaw, Zatoichi Meets The One-Armed Swordsman, and Zatoichi: The Festival Of Fire. The films are amazingly good! Katsu Shintaro was an incredibly gifted actor, his portrayal of Zatoichi is just wonderful. I am already looking forward to watching the other two films this week.

This film basically got me into it. Apart from several fake looking CGI effects, I think it's a well done homage to the original series.

ZATO ICHI MEETS HIS EQUAL (1971)
a rare team up/battle of two of martial arts legends, and it's pretty darn good. could have more fighting, as it's definitely a Japanese movie and not a Chinese one. Wang Yu does add a bit of Chinese gung fu/wu xia to the mix though, which makes it more fun!
but still, Wang Yu and Shintaro are two of the most charismatic leading men, and also quite unlikely.
i never liked the ending, til i realized Zato Ichi probably pulled his final strike. after all, Wang Kang lived to team up with the other one armed swordsman later on...
I GOTTA watch more of these.
