aside from the dopey title, i kind of like this show. i watched some episodes at first, and was pretty disappointed in the fight scenes, but now, without a ton of cg and wirework, they are a bit better than i remember.
Pilot (90 minutes, more or less):
Eternal Warrior (pt 1 and pt 2)
Kung Lao has to face up to his destiny of training warriors to fight Shao Khan. he loses the woman he loves so there's some revenge factoring in. he is joined by Taja and... uh, the bodyguard/escort who's name i'll remember for the next episode.
not bad for a premiere. i know nothing about the games, so bear that in mind. i've only seen the movies.

"Cold Reality"
oops, it's not Shao Khan that Kung Lao defeated. Shang Tson is the guy.
anyway, Shang contacts the Lin Kwei, a group of assassins to get some crystal for Shao. we also see the creation of Sub-Zero.
meanwhile Taja has second thoughts about her new career path.
sure would be nice if they just let these people fight, instead of using the edit style. they are good enough it's just frustrating to watch at times.

I had high hopes for the series but as it progressed it went down hill focusing more on characters that had nothing to do with the MORTAL KOMBAT backstory[which is what the series was supposed to be about]and too much T&A type actresses were given too much screen time.Too make matters worse they decided to give these actresses fight scenes when they were clearly not trained in the martial arts. The series seemes to have turned off die hard MK fans and the general audience didn't bother to watch it so it was cancelled after one season with the storylines left unresolved.

There are several tapes of this series available at the local Mom n' Pop video store here in Brazil. Sometime I hope to rent at least one to review it for the site.

Kung Lao, Sirro and Tasha visit Kung's monastery. an old monk, Master Wang, dies and turns to dust. someone has put a potion in the water, and Sirro and Tasha have some in their waterbag.
Kung and pals have to go to the Dark Forest to find a sorceress to help them find a cure.
i like the t & a women, especially their costumes, but they shouldn't be fighting if they aren't trained. i don't know any of the MK background, so none of that bothers me. the three main characters are likable, which for the late 90s is a feat in and of itself.

Kitana goes to Earth Realm looking for "the Essence" and Shao Khan and Shang Tsun are after it. naturally our heroes get involved. Kung Lao doesn't trust Kitana, what with her being the Emperor's step daughter.
Kitana is a babe, no question. her stunt double is a good fighter as well. it was 20 minutes before the first fight though, not a good sign in a show called MKC.

Sirro loses a fight and is mad that Kung Lao had to step in. he visits a seer who tells him how to increase his power by defeating ancient warriors. Taja thinks it's bogus and tags along.
one fight in 25 minutes?

Black Dragon claims that the trading post our heroes live in is theirs because the late Baron owed them money. Kung thinks that driving them off once will stop them. Sirro disagrees.
in the secret society itself there is dissension- the daughter wants to use their black arts to help them, the father says no one can control them.
the daughter goes to Shang Tsun- who hates her father. trouble is a brewin'!
a well shot fight in the first sequence was really nice to see.

Shang Tsung tricks Taja into the Cobalt Mines with an image of her father. naturally he wants Lao again. while looking for her Lao and Sirro realize they don't know her very well at all.
Taja gets a pretty brutal fight in this episode.

the sorcerer Quan Chi sends his three hot servants out to kill Kung Lao. he plans on using the old "fear juice" to infect them and send them into madness.
you've gotta be kidding me- the three chicks wear domino masks and our heroes don't recognize them? good fight scene in the first segment.

Shang Tsung summons Quan Chi to the Cobalt Mines. he wants them to form an alliance to kill Kung Lao. he'll give Quan his secret of "stealing souls". of course, we all know that he can't trust Shang. the woman that played Sion (Cionne?) is a decent fighter.

Scorpion returns, as does Sirro's ex-lover, who's married to his brother, who is now missing. gee, where do you think he could be?
decent fight in the beginning.

Shao Khan sends an assassin after Kung Lao, and then makes Melina look like Kitana in order to kill Kung. Shang Tsung sends Vorpax (what a name!) to stop her.
i didn't realize Jeff Meeks played both Raydeen and Shao Khan- that's rather clever.

well, i finished watched the series. it sure does build to a fever pitch, and then nothing! man, that kind of sucks.
gotta love the outfits, and the fighting was OK- or at least the stunt doubles were. it would be nice if they had the use of ANY HK director on the set who could have made some really good action scenes. fortunately the budget didn't allow the effects to overshadow anything.
not a bad show.

Wasn't Daniel Bernhardt in this? Did they direct him as a legitimate fighter or as a Van Damme imitator like some of his other films?

i have no idea, but i don't remember anyone- oh, i wonder if he was the tall bodyguard guy. he did seem a bit Van Damme-ish, overall, but he'd probably be taller than Jean Clod.

He played Siro, who had nothing to do with the game. However he had some martial arts skills which is saying something about a show centered on martial arts fighting yet very few of the actors in the show had any martial arts skills.
