Generally considered to be the greatest weapons movie alongside "Legendary Weapons of China." In it, two masters, one of the sabre and the other of the spear, have a yearly duel to determine who the best fighter is. They finally come to the conclusion that their match always comes to a tie because they're friends and don't have the courage to strike the death blow. Therefore, they decide to choose students to carry on their feud.
It's a pretty good kung fu comedy. There's a lot of weapons fighting, primarily between Sammo and Lau, who take on dual roles as the masters and each other's students. The fighting is mainly weapons based, with our heroes using the sabre and spear (natch!) and Leung Kar-Yan appearing in the end armed with the kwan do (essentially a sabre with a long handle). There is some hand-to-hand fighting in the penultimate battle, though. The techniques are really good, although Sammo's (or Lau's) use of undercranking in some scenes is unnecessary. Most of the comedy is passable, although the scene with Dean Shek is really silly. However, as always, Sammo and Lau light up the screen in one of the many films they made together.

LEGENDARY WEAPONS is overrated. this one is far more entertaining, which is odd for me to say.
