The newest Rock set was cool. It could have been so much better had the Rock participated. My Wife actually owns this one as The Rock is her favorite wrestler. I understand Rock's issues with WWE, I just wish he could have done like Bret and set them aside to make a set to thank his fans. We got him to the point he is at now. His wrestling fans supported his early films that allowed him to get better roles. Just seems Dewayne should remember he used to be a lowly rassler and his fans catapulted him to main stream stardom. The match selection on this set was pretty decent. There are also many funny promos, which is where Rock shined. The only other wrestlers I have seen that could hold a crowd in their palm where Austin and Flair, but IMO even they paled next to Rocky's mic skills.

Ric Flair the definitive collection is not half bad. The doc was very well done. Having the complete send off was awesome and I got a little teared up. Two of my all time favorite Flair matches are on this being the match against Sting from the first Clash of The Champions and the 89 Great American Bash match against Terry Funk. I love the Clash match because it was a great match and that was when Sting became a star. I love the Funk match because of the wild after match brawl between Flair and Sting taking on Funk and Muta. You didn't see wild stuff like that back then. The only gripe I have is the match selection could have been way better. Why own the AWA and Florida libraries if you won't use stuff from them on sets like these? They showed some clips from Florida but not any matches. His match against Barry Windham from the first Battle of the Belts card was better IMO than their classic Crockett battles. What is on there is great, but they could and should have out so much more. I wonder why they did not talk to Steamboat seeing as how he works for WWE. Still I am splitting hairs because the set was very well done.

The Essential Starracde was pretty darn good. The documentary was neat. I felt all in all the match selection was pretty good. Yes there were some great match omissions, but that is to be expected. I felt they featured way too many matches from Starrcade 89, the Ironman and Ironteam tournaments. They did have the Road Warriors loss to the Steiners. That was a good match that was well booked. The Warriors lost clean which was seldom done then but in such a way that they didn't lose their aura. The Steiners were absolutely awesome at this point too. If you were a Crockett NWA fan or a fan of WCW this set won't disappoint. Heck the Warriors are well represented on this set Dave!
Viva La Raza the new Eddy Guererro set was really cool. This set is done in the style that people would talk about phases of his career or significant matches and then show them. This set should be viewed as a companion piece to the other Eddy set. Miss that little bugger.
I have the History of the IC Title but haven't watched it yet.

i'm glad you posted that. i'll probably pick up the Starrcade set (so odd to see Sting front and center, especially blond Sting on a wwf box) but they say it's got commentary from Animal on some of the matches so that makes it a keeper.
i've also recently seen the "Legends" DVDs, which i've got in my rental queue from netflix. those look like fun, especially if they are uncensored by the wwe. i hope they do it like the Eddie disc, talk about the person then show a match.

Crystal got me the Saturday Night's Main Event set for Valentine's. You know, many knock Vince for killing the territory system, but I really enjoyed the early National Expansion era WWF. For all the guff the WWF got for being too cartoony, they had some damn good action and well booked angles and feuds. This set epitomizes what made it so fun. I miss the era of super cards on free TV. We didn't get inundated with 12 PPVs a year so there was a big match quality to SNME. There is some great stuff on here. I would say get it as the last vestiges of old school wrestling are featured early in this set. I think you'd like this set Dave.
I pray this and the Starrcade sets do well so maybe they will do a Clash of the Champions set.

The History of the Intercontinental Title is an okay set. There is plenty of good old school stuff on here. WWE did their revisionist history bit though. They said Pat Patterson, the reigning North American Champion, won a (bogus) tournament in Rio to win the South American Title. They took those two belts and created the Intercontinental Title out of them. Okay here is the deal. Ted DiBiase was the reigning Midsouth North American Champion when he jumped to the WWF. He "lost" that to Pat Patterson and from there they created the IC Title.

The Greatest Stars of the 90s is an alright set. I really think they shortchanged the ECW guys like Shane Douglas, Raven, and Taz as they were pretty big stars. I felt they did a good job featuring guys. They have Bret&Owen Hart, Mick Foley, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, Yokozuna, Scot Hall, Sting, Triple H, HBK, The Rock, Stone Cold, and the Undertaker. They even do small featurettes on Bischoff-McMahon-Heyman, and the Divas. I really like the match selection as it is not the same old tired matches released over and over. Two other names besides the ECW guys that were excluded were Goldberg and Kurt Angle. Vader is another big name and maybe Sid. Heck I can't stand him, but Warrior should have been featured as well. Still the set was well done and I liked the little bios better on this set than what they had on the 80s set.
This was the last set Taz will do for WWE and I felt he did a good job hosting it.

The SNME set is well worth it Dave, you'd love it so if you can pick that one up too. I like the Starrcade set, makes me miss JCP/NWA!

"Rise and Fall of WCW"
it's hard to believe WCW has been gone almost ten years, and yet looking at those last pathetic two years it's hard to believe it lasted as long as it did. the documentary is great, no one seems to have an ego present, and no one pulls punches as to who is to blame for what happened at the end. there is not enough about Georgia Championship Wrestling, which was the first "WCW", long before Crockett bought it. Goldberg was surprising to see and hear, and I quite enjoyed his comments the most. the nWo is represented in talks via archival footage from about 7 years ago, and of course Nash, Jarrett and Russo are nowhere to be heard from on the disc. the matches are a pretty good selection as well, though of course I would like to have seen the Road Warriors represented. the extras are pretty cool, and Bill Watts, love him or hate him, is always entertaining to listen to- there's a man who calls it like he sees it.Attachments:

I want to check it out. I keep hearing so many complaints that they didn't focus enough on Georgia and Mid Atlantic but this is a WCW set. I hope we get sets on both of those in the future. I also keep hearing that Mike Graham lies like a rug over stating his significance in WCW. The most important thing he did was threatening Benoit which allowed him, Eddy, Saturn, and Dean to get out of their WCW contracts and head to the WWF. That was truly the beginning of the end for WCW. I do like the fact they seem to be trying not to put the same matches on these sets and the match selection looks good.

watched disc one of the "Allied Powers" DVD and enjoyed some of the older matches I hadn't seen (the Killer Bees were never going to get over with that gimmick, always mid-carders). nice to see Demolition make an appearance.
the newer matches I can take or leave, since they all look the same to me.
but boy I hate "the Miz". and not just heel heat.

disc 2 of Rise and Fall of WCW was pretty interesting, some fun matches I've never seen. I think kayfabe ended with Hulk showing up in WCW. his match with Flair was the last one on this disc, and the only one I didn't watch. seen it before.
