He finally succumbed to the cancer which had been ravaging his body. many don't know that John wrestled collegiately for LSU and when the program was dropped he made his way to Japan. He entered the world of Sumo and was undefeated in the amatuer ranks. They say he had a good chance to make it as a top pro, but he grew tired of the toll it took on his body. He eventually signed with All Japan as Giant Baba liked to sign former Sumo wrestlers. His greatest acclaim came in 1990 as tthe Canadian Earthquake. Many remember his WWF run for squahing Hulk Hogan, Damien, and his championship tag team with Typhoon. He later went to WCW and went through a ton of gimmicks. His last hurrah on a national platform came as Golga, the Cartman doll carrying masked member of the Oddities in the WWF. He had opened up a wrestling school in Florida and put on some well recieved shows before his illness dictated he couldn't. I had the pleasure of conversing with John and found him to be one of the most genuine, nice wrestlers I have ever encountered. He truly appreciated his fans. The man was only 42 at the time of his passing. RIP John, you made this a better place and we will miss you.
