Have you ever noticed that so many of the superheroes from Marvel Comics Group have names whose both first and last names begin with the same letter. Check the following:
Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) Peter Parker (Spiderman) Bruce Banner (the Hulk) Matt Murdock (Daredevil) Susan Storm (Invisible Girl) Warren Worthington (Angel) Scott Summers (Cyclops) Stephen Strange (Dr. Strange)
And if that's not enough, how about the villains? There are the Green Goblin and also Otto Octavius (Dr. Octopus) and Curt Connors (the Lizard).
Can you add any more to the list?

Technically it is David Bruce Banner, but yeah I see your point. Probably a weird coincidence.

Actually, it's Robert Bruce Banner, the David is from tv and not applicable to the real character. Lots from DC as well- Clark Kent (well, both sound like the same letter), Lois Lane and ALL the other double Ls there. It's easier for the readers to remember, plus Stan likes alliteration.

Right, Megs, you mentioned the next topic I now pose, namely DC comics tremendous recurrence of the letter "L." Actually it must all begin with Superman himself for his extraterrestrial name is Kal-el, and the "el" his family name is pronounced like "L." Then came Lois Lane, and then her sister Lucy Lane, and the mermaid Lori Lemaris, to name just a few. But correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Lex Luthor the Only male character that has two Ls in his name? Just wondering.
There is a rumor I heard from a friend, a rumor which remains Unconfirmed, that maybe you can verify or falsify for me. It is that this unusual recurrence of Ls was caused by a prankish magical spell cast by Mister Mxyzptlk!! Knowing Mxyzptlk's penchant for practical jokes, the magical curse would seem "tailor-made." Can anyone confirm this rumor one way or another?

The reason for it being "Robert Bruce Banner" is because Stan messed up once and referred to him as "Bob Banner"! So it's still alliteration.
The "L" thing is just a coicidence, of that I'm fairly certain. Luthor didn't have a first name for a long long time. I tend to think the double "L" for all the girlfriends were just a callback to Lois Lane. Please see Lana Lang, Lori Lemaris, Lyla Ler-rol, Luma Lynai, etc.
After awhile, it was noticed and the writers and editors just ran with it. That is why there are so many.
Another male would be Lightning Lad of the Legion. And don't forget Linda Lee, aka Supergirl!

Isn't Lex short for Alexander?

No, Lex is just "Lex". Versions like "Alexi/Alexei" (Earth 2) and "Alex/Alexander" (Earth 3) seem to have originated in the 70s and 80s. But Lex is not short for anything.

Stan Lee claims he did this on purpose, as he felt it left an impression on readers, and made the names easier to remember.
Some more:
Betty Brant Robbie Robertson
Also, if you include some of the early masked identies/super-names:
Doctor Doom Silver Surfer
