We were up at Barnes and Noble a couple of weeks back and saw something we thought our son would love. It was a book that came with four PVC figurines of Wolverine, Cpt. America, Spidey, and the Hulk. The book is entitled Classic Marvel Super Heroes. It was written by Peter Sanderson and revolves around the four characters depicted as the figurines. First off, the figurines are really cool. They have good detail and each is on a base, on the back of which they name the heroes, their first appearence and super powers. The book is not a reprinting of their debut, instead it chronicles each hero from begining until the time the book was written. It gives character progression, but also spends alot of time on the writers and artists that brough us these great characters. It talks about changes in society and how it impacted the portrayal of the characters. In that sense it isn't a straight biography like Marvel Universe and gives a much more rounded view on the characters. A great cofee table type book, and the figurines made it a steallar birthday gift for our son. Right now the figures are next to some Boba Fett stuff on top of the computer desk. If you have ever read any of the DK Ultimate Guide books this one is in a similar vein. There are tons of visuals, important events in the lives of the characters through out. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know.
