I got this on pay per view last night and was surprised-it was actually alot funnier than i thought it would be.The best part was Joe Dante's great homage to 50s B movies-Bugs,Daffy,Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman end up at Area 52 where the government has captured aliens-including Marvin the Martian,Ro-Man, a couple Daleks from DR WHO,the Man from Planet X and the Metaluna Mutant-all were new costumes that looked just like the originals.Ro-Man even got to say "Fool Hu-Mans!" and turn negative! Robby the Robot also worked their. Marvin lets all the bad aliens out and they attack the good guys.Bugs takes care of the Man from Planet X by opening the big box on his chest like a microwave and popping some popcorn in there which fills his helmet! This was really the best part of the movie(for me anyways),but it was altogether pretty funny, light years better than that insipid feature length Nike commercial that was SPACE JAM! I guess having Joe Dante as director made a huge difference.

I think Amy may have bought this one. I should go look later. "Fool Hu-Mans!" indeed!

Warner Bros really needs to take a closer look at their marketing dept and see what they can do to fix it. The ads made this movie look pretty lame, or maybe only just as good as Space Jam (which was pretty lame).
But Back In Action really turned out to be quite funny in the way the original Loony Toons were. The human acting was terrible, but the animated humor was really good and it's totally worth seeing just for that.

I did love in Space Jam when Daffy kissed the Warner Bros. Logo on his arse as he said they owned him. That was a visual I couldn't believe Warner execs did not make get pulled, but damn it was funny! Man, I can't type b u t t without it changing to buck? Man, this filter is touchy!

Yes, I have the DVD I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. It was on sale at Blockbuster for $6.99 so I couldn't resist. I'm hoping it will be pretty good.

The Terry Nation estate is not pleased with the unathorized use of the Daleks.

Well, since Warners has a relationship with the BBC, perhaps (and I'm just guessing here) they got permission from their end and not the Nation people because they didn't know any better. Of course, it is their job to know these things.
Say, could you put an explanation about the Dalek situation up in your DOCTOR WHO thread?

Right again. The BBC approved the use of the Daleks without consulting Terry Nations heirs. And they are apparently miffed about it.
Didn't I mention in the Doctor Who thread that there will be no Daleks in the new series?

Yes sir, I meant how the rights to the Daleks are now a little more complicated than they used to be.
I'll probably watch this movie when I get caught up on some of my other ones.

There's this Japanese restaurant in the town I work in that has soy sauce dispenser bottles that look kinda like Daleks. I could never resist (to my co-workers dismay and amusement) grabbing the bottle and driving it around the table while hitting my adams apple repeatedly with my hand and yelling "EXTERMINATE!! EXTERMINATE!!!'
Oh, those were the days (the restaurant closed a while back).

I thought it was pretty funny, and it played pretty smooth. Brendan Fraser is good in it, too. But I WAS wondering about how much money went into licensing the various creatures and non-Warner cartoon characters. I mean, it doesn't seem as much of a licensing nightmare as "Moulin Rouge," but it looked like it gave a few folks a few headaches. I applaud Dante and company for even attempting such a thing.

Fair use, maybe? Sometimes that can help, or some kind of agreement for the exposure of said properties in a major movie.

ROBOT MONSTER is PD, so I would think Ro-Man is fair game. Warner Bros. is in partnership with the BBC (they release their videos/DVDs, for one thing), so that solved the Daleks (except for the Terry Nation Estate issue). Some of the other may fall under parody or under limited licensing.

I also regret not having gotten to see this on th big screen. I did see Bugs' 50th anniversary short Box Office Bunny on the big screen back in 1991(with Never Ending Story 2). Who could possibly think this was not as good as Space Jam? Space Jam was not very good-there were a few moments, but overall it was lame! What a buncha maroons!
