i'd never seen this movie, but had recently read part of the book. this is a sumptuously filmed version, well acted with good action. it takes place in the French-Indian war in 1757 (i think). there was already much unrest between the Colonies and the British (as well as the French and Indian tribes). this is a love story as well as an adventure.
i liked the movie pretty well, even though it was pretty violent. having just watched CONAN, it wasn't nearly THAT excessively violent, but scalpings and choppings abound.
well acted also. since i haven't read the entire book, i don't know how different it is, though i am sure there are some. plenty of other versions abound.
