I recently watched the first series on subbed HK disc (subs weren't bad at all) and rented the first 2 movies. This is a great series! I always knew it was great as I've had the second movie on tape for years, but what a powerful experience! great writing, voice cast and music! MACROSS , which has always been my favorite anime series, definitely took a big page from the YAMATO book, though not enough to make their series a blatant rip-off. Anyone else's thoughts on this landmark series?

haven't ever seen an episode, though i started watching a movie once, long long ago. but never did finish it, for whatever reasons they were. always wanted to watch it, especially when i first heard of StarBlazers back as a sort of kid.

Maybe I can hook you up once I get my new recorder David. The first movie is just made of parts of episodes of the series,the second movie is excellent and was actually turned into the plotline for the second TV series, but I'm guessing a different finale. That's as far as I've gotten so far. I'm watching JONNY QUEST right now, and when i'm through with that I'm going to start watching the second series.

I have been a YAMATO fanatic since I was a kid, before it came to the US as STAR BLAZERS, thanks to our shops at Japantown here in San Francisco. I was really involved in YAMATO fandom in the wake of the syndication of the series in the US, which led to the surge in interest in anime here. I just played one of the PS 2 YAMATO games, which was a great experience, and I hope to see a new YAMATO, based on the original characters and situations, produced in the near future.
