When Captain America throws his mighty shield All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield If he's led to a fight and a duel is due The red and the white and the blue will come through When Captain America throws his mighty shield

"Fightin' Side Of Me" Written by Merle Haggard.(© Tree Publishing Company.) Recorded by Merle Haggard From "Songs I'll Always Sing", © 1976, Capitol Records.
I hear people talkin' bad, About the way we have to live here in this country, Harpin' on the wars we fight, An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be. An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides, An' standin' up for things they believe in. When they're runnin' down my country, man, They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me. Runnin' down the way of life, Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep. If you don't love it, leave it: Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'. If you're runnin' down my country, man, You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
I read about some squirrely guy, Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'. An' I wonder just how long, The rest of us can count on bein' free. They love our milk an' honey, But they preach about some other way of livin'. When they're runnin' down my country, hoss, They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me. Runnin' down the way of life, Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep. If you don't love it, leave it: Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'. If you're runnin' down my country, man, You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

a fun one- the No-No Song, by Ringo Starr (well, he didn't write it, but we all know he sang it). Huh-huh! Huh-huh (Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah) (Aye-aye-aye-aye)
A lady that i know just came from columbia, She smiled because i did not understand. Then she held out some marijuana, ha ha! She said it was the best in all the land.
And i said, "no, no, no, no, i don't smoke it no more, I'm tired of waking up on the floor. No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze, And then it makes it hard to find the door."
(ah-ah-aye-aye)
A woman that i know just came from majorca, spain, She smiled because i did not understand. (parazzi! Parazzi!) (ole!) Then she held out a ten pound bag of cocaine, She said it was the finest in the land.
And i said, "no, no, no, no, i don't sniff it no more, I'm tired of waking up on the floor. No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze, And then it makes it hard to find the door."
(aye-aye-aye-aye) (aye-aye-aye-aye) (aye-aye-aye-aye) (aye-aye-aye)
A man that i know just came from nashville, tennessee, oo, (oh no!) He smiled because i did not understand. Then he held out some moonshine whiskey, oh ho, He said it was the best in all the land. (and he wasn't joking!!!)
And i said, "no, no, no, no, i don't drink it no more, I'm tired of waking up on the floor. No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze, And then it makes it hard to find the door."
Well, i said, "no, no, no, no, i can't take it no more, I'm tired of waking up on the floor. No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze, And then it makes it hard to find the door."
Hey yeh!
"i'll just have another drink, barman, have you got a large brandy?"

Nice topic!
Lyrics to "Wind Chill Factor (Minus Zero)" by Boomtown Rats
I took a tube train through the subway system I rode those tunnels like a six-foot mole I came back out and I was gasping for air I made it to your place, I was praying you'd be home We really shouldn't be alone tonight; Let's go to a movie where everybody fights, but In the end there's dancing, songs and smiles You need lots of smiles when it's Wind chill factor minus zero Wind chill factor minus ten below, there you go
It's one of those days where I don't like myself But I get along with me okay I'll slip beneath these sheets and shiver here awhile I find this happening more frequently these days, still, I practice nightly, I try to keep ahead This art of surfacing is all but dead, but I keep coming up, with time enough to breathe I take what I need, when it's Wind chill factor minus zero Wind chill factor minus ten below, there you go
Do you agree with anything at all? Oh no Do you believe in anything at all? Oh no
You know when winter comes to visit these big cities And the wind starts howling through the elevator shafts Well, our love is like one of those older, colder buildings My concrete's cracked and I begin to feel the draft You start to laugh You say you've won It's just I lost That's not the same I'll hobble to my corner and I view the situation And we'll settle finally for some form of deep freeze hibernation when it's...
Wind chill factor minus zero Wind chill factor minus ten below, there you go

it's interesting that you posted those lyrics,David. while a good 90% of our gigs are orginals, we still throw in a few covers here and there---and given my recent "clean myself up" status, i just added that song to our covers a mere three weeks ago!

Tell Laura I Love Her Ray Peterson (died last week)
Laura and Tommy were lovers He wanted to give her everything Flowers, presents, But most of all, a wedding ring
He saw a sign for a stock car race A thousand dollar prize it read He couldn't get Laura on the phone So to her mother, Tommy said
Tell Laura I love her Tell Laura I need her Tell Laura I may be late I've something to do, that cannot wait
He drove his car to the racing grounds He was the youngest driver there The crowed roared as they started the race Around the track they drove at a deadly pace
No one knows what happened that day Or how his car overturned in flames But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck With his dying breath, they heard him say
Tell Laura I love her Tell Laura I need her Tell Laura not to cry My love for her will never die
Now in the chapel where Laura prays For her poor Tommy, who passed away It was just for Laura he lived and died Alone in the chapel she can hear him cry
Tell Laura I love her Tell Laura I need her Tell Laura not to cry My love for her will never die
Tell Laura I love her Tell Laura I need her Tell Laura not to cry My love for her will never die

I just watched Five Deadly Venoms and am now waxing nostalgic for good old fashioned Kung Fu Theater type of action and thought this song would go well with my mood.

"Music to Watch Girls Go By" by Andy Williams!
It's brassy, it's sassy, and it's from the mini-slirt high-boot lip-gloss 60's! this song was used on a diet soda commercial, and covered by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, as well as others...including William Shatner (instrumentally, with spacey sound effects, and a slight retitling: "Music to Watch Space Girls Go By" )
The boys watch the girls while the girls watch the boys who watch the girls go by Eye to eye They solemnly convene to make the scene Which is the name of the game Watch the guy watch the dame On any street in town Up and down And over and across Romance is boss
Guys talk Girl talk It happens everywhere Eyes watch Girls walk With tender loving care
It’s keeping track of the pack Watching them watching back That makes the world go round What’s that sound? Each time you hear a loud collective sigh Their making music to watch girls by!

My buddy calls and asks if I want to go see a Christian band called Skillet with him and I said sure. Man they were totally awesome. They were heavy as anything and just flat out rocked. It is nice to find good positive music for those times I need something to shake the house, you know? The following song was wicked live, and awesome on record. Check these cats out if you like heavy rock.

"S.O.S." written by Lionel Robinson & Harry Robinson vocals by "Kate Kestral" from Terrahawks ("Play It Again, Sram")
Calling International Rescue… International Rescue, do you read me? International Rescue, come in please! We need help!
I turn my face into the wind, I feel a restless kind of motion in the way she blows And as the final day begins, I make a fist to wipe my fingers 'til the feeling goes
I never felt so much alone, I face a destiny unknown, The human race is in despair, One man alive can take us there…
S.O.S.! Mr Tracy, the western world is falling, S.O.S.! International Rescue, hear us calling, S.O.S.!
I turn my face up to the sky, I feel a wall of pressure blowing up inside of me, As if in answer to my cry, I hear the crash of thunder and the Tracy symphony
The lights are out in London town, Communications breaking down And if the creature doesn't kill, Be sure the radiation will…
S.O.S.! Mr Tracy, the western world is falling, S.O.S.! International Rescue, hear us calling, S.O.S.!
Calling International Rescue… International Rescue, come in please... Come in please... [rest is unintelligible]
The world is slipping, ticking, ticking like a time bomb
The lights are out in London town, Communications breaking down And if the creature doesn't kill Be sure the radiation will…
S.O.S.! Mr Tracy, the western world is falling, S.O.S.! International Rescue, hear us calling, S.O.S.! Mr Tracy, the western world is falling, S.O.S.! International Rescue, hear us calling, S.O.S.!

Me Myself I- Joan Armatrading
I sit here by myself And you know I love it You know I don't want someone To come pay a visit
I wanna be by myself I came in this world alone Me myself I
I want to go to China And to see Japan I'd like to sail the oceans Before the seas run dry
I wanna go by myself I've just room enough for one Me myself I
I wanna be a big shot And have ninety cars I wanna have a boyfriend And a girl for laughs
But only on Saturdays Six days to be alone With just me myself I Me myself and I Just me myself I
Don't want to be the bad guy Don't want to make a soul cry It's not that I love myself I just don't want company Except me myself I

did this at my LJ for Ivanna... No Class (The Plasmatics, via Motorhead) Shut up, you talk too loud, You don't fit in with the crowd, I can't believe you exist, I've crossed you right off my list, Too much, too soon, You're way out of tune, No Class, No Class Way out, you're way out of line, No buddy I can't spare a dime, Fade out, baby that's right, No bark and even less bite, Your perfect smile, Betrays your lack of style, No Class, No Class Ah No Class, No Class Too late, you can't catch up now, You face the wrong way anyhow, I know you ain't got the brain, To come in out of the rain, Too bad, no magic, I'm afraid you're merely tragic, No Class, baby No Class No Class, ah No Class sometimes we all feel this way!

I ain’t here to hold you when you cry I ain’t here to hold your shaky hand I ain’t here to look you in the eye Or beg for you to understand I ain’t gonna walk you thru your dreams Walk you thru this life that we all know I ain’t here to listen while you speak I ain’t here to heal your broken soul Am I here at all? I ain’t here to tell you what you need I ain’t gonna take a noble stand I ain’t here to look you in the eye Or beg for you to understand I can only tell you what I’ve seen I can only tell you how it felt While my heart was crushed to bad inside Till I felt the hatred slowly melt I don’t wanna I ain’t gonna watch your every move I ain’t gonna dog your every step I ain’t here to shape your every mood I ain’t here to keep your secrets kept Oh, but if I held you in my arms If I could squeeze you till we cry I don’t wanna lose this love I feel I don’t wanna lose this fight tonite I ain’t gonna I ain’t here to hold you when you cry I ain’t here to hold your shaky hand I ain’t here to look you in the eye I don’t want you under my command I can only hope you feel your tears I can only wish you’d feel the hope I can only hope that I can see Out beyond this skin that covers me Oh, how I wish that you were here If I could hold you in my arms Oh, how I wish that you were mine I don’t wanna beg for you no more I ain’t gonna tell you how I feel I ain’t gonna tell you how I feel I ain’t gonna pray for you to love me I just know it!

Here's a song I suddenly can't get out of my head...no, it's more than a song...it's a FEELING...
"SILLY LOVE SONG"
You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs. I look around me and I see it isn’t so. Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. What’s wrong with that? I’d like to know, Cause here I go...agaaaaaain I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I can’t explain the feeling’s plain to me, say can’t you see? Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me Now can’t you see, What’s wrong with that I need to know, Cause here I go...agaaaaain.... I love you, I love you
Love doesn’t come in a minute, Sometimes it doesn’t come at all I only know that when I’m in it It isn’t silly, no, it isn’t silly, love isn’t silly at all.

Kung Fu Fighting
Everybody was kung-fu fighting Those cats were fast as lightning In fact it was a little bit frightning But they fought with expert timing
They were funky China men from funky Chinatown They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down It's an ancient Chineese art and everybody knew their part From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip
Everybody was kung-fu fighting Those cats were fast as lightning In fact it was a little bit frightning But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung He said here comes the big boss, lets get it on We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand knew trip
Everybody was kung-fu fighting Those cats were fast as lightning In fact it was a little bit frightning But they did it with expert timing
(repeat)..make sure you have expert timing Kung-fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning
