I just came from watching a local production of the musical Grease. They did okay, although it some places the music was too loud, drowned out the singers. A couple of times wireless mics failed and they had to rush out wired mics, but this apparently happend on opening night too because they were prepared for it. Before the show they announced that cell phones messed up the sound and to turn them off, but there are always people who don't listen.
I would rewrite the ending. It seemed to me that Danny liked Sandy because she was not like those other girls, of questionable morals. So when Sandy went overboard and put on those tight pants and that absurd wig, instead of being please about it he should have told her that if he wanted a very *friendly* person he could have had several and walked off leaving her alone. That would have been a better message.
The audience was asked to vote on what show to do next year. Pick 3 choices. Mine were Big River, Man of La Mancha (my favorite) and South Pacific. They had Phantom of the Opera as a choice and I'd like to see a stage production of it but not in this open air theater.

we had the same problem when i saw it two years ago- great backup band, but they were too loud and you couldn't always hear the words to the music, although i knew most of the words from the movie.
they changed several of the more "adult" lyrics as well, to make the play more family friendly.
i was surprised that the play ended that way as well, having seen the movie SO many times and seeing that Danny lettered in the movie whereas he didn't in the play, he essentially drug Sandy down to where he was, instead of him rising above his "gang" sort of level.
Sandy was only playing dressup, i'm sure!
of course, this is set in a 50s that only existed in people's imaginations, so there's always that side of the play.
i'd like to see MAN OF LA MANCHA as well.

I think they changed some of the lyrics here too.

while it's not nearly as fun as the first movie, i have to admit kind of liking this "sequel". i'd never seen it until recently, but it's a lot of fun.
granted, it could have and should have been called ANYthing other than GREASE 2, since that was assuredly setting it up for completely flop status. THE PINK LADIES RULE RYDELL would have been a better title, so we know it's a sequel, but then the comparisons would have been a lot less.
Michelle is quite cute in her outfit, though.

just watched the special "Rockin' Rydell Edition" of GREASE on DVD- what a blast this movie is! lots of fun stuff from behind the scenes and the commentary is pretty fun to listen to.
in the new stuff, Olivia looks great and they sing some of the songs as well. Olivia is a much more accomplished singer/performer than John is, though he is the better actor.
what fun.

just watched all of GREASE 2, and i really enjoyed it. it's really poorly named, since it's not bad. it was a REALLY bad idea to call it that, but overall, it's a good movie. not as good as GREASE, but it's a lot better than it gets credit for.
Michelle is a hoot as the leader of the Pink Ladies.

I've watched the movie a couple of times over the past couple of days, and it's really quite something. Very enjoyable!
