First film in "Sensurround" (low frequencey speakers placed on the floor). I remember seeing Earthquake in the theater with Sensurround, made the place rumble.
Los Angeles is hit by the most powerful earthquake ever. Among those effected by the quake are:
Engineer Stewart Graff (Charleston Heston), his wife Remy Royce-Graff (Ava Gardner), his mistress Denise Marshall (Geneviève Bujold) and her son Corry (Tiger Williams).
Construction company owner Sam Royce (Lorne Greene) and his employees.
Sgt. Lew Slade (George Kennedy) a disillusioned LA police who survives the quake because he was off duty in a bar when his station house was flatened becomes instrumental in saving lives.
According to the IMdb Walter Matthau did not want to be in the film but the director wanted him so badly that he agreed to play the drunk (the director wanted him for a largerpart) but only if he was credited under his birth name of Matuschanskayasky. Also according to the IMdb what happens to Stewart Graff in the end was Charles Heston's idea.
I have Earthquake VHS tape (couldn't find it on DVD). The movie loses something when you watch it on a regular sized TV screen without Sensurround.
