This is another English dubbed film. Produced in Italy and Spain, according to the credits and originally Spanish dialogue, according to the IMdb.
The King of Ascatus has died, leaving a daughter Sira and a 12 year old son Darius. The Prime Minister, Rabirius is to rule as Regent until Darius is of age. Rabirius, contrary to the wishes of the Prince always gives thumbs down to losing Gladiators, requiring the victor to kill the loser. One master of a gladiator school has a contract with the Regent which requires the Regent to pay a forfit of 8000 if he fails to show mercy. By this the master hopes to save his slaves from the greedy Regent. Two men die but the rest are spared. When two Gladiators who are best friends refuse to harm each other the Regents calls them cowards. One of the Gladiators, Rezius, throws his sword, just as an assassin moves to strike the Regent. Rezius sword impales the assassin, saving the Regent. Did Rezius mean to kill the assassin or was he aiming for the Regent? Watch the film and then tell me. I know what I think. The Regent decides to reward Rezius by freeing him from the arena and making him one of his personal guards, but Rezius doesn't like the idea of being a soldier under someone elses command, so the Regent ammused by his arogance puts Rezius in command of 200 men to eliminate a band of brigands. The Regent also grants Rezius request to free his friend Vibius from the arena so he may serve at Rezius's side. Freeing these two men costs the Regent "a generus fee" to their master.
Naturally Rezius falls for the princess Sira, who snubs him. Vibius likes a lady-in-waiting. Prince Darius wants Rezius to teach him to fight, but not to tell Sira.
Leaving his men to fight the brigands, Rezius chases after thier leader. He catches the leader and is astonished to discover that its Sira. She claims that the men Rezius army is killing are not brigands. She says that Rabirius is a tyrant who enslaves the people, sending them to work in the mines, and Rezius has destroyed the people's last hope be killing off their best men.
Regent Rabirius intends to marry Princess Sira in order to gain favor with the people. Knowing that he cannot become king as long as Prince Darius lives and realising that Rezius has turned against him, Rabirius devises a scheme to eliminate the boy and the man at the same time.
I have Invincible Gladiator on a $1 DVD along with Gladiators 7. Invincible Gladitor was relesaed before Gladiators 7. I didn't know that until I checked the IMdb. The DVD has Gladiators 7 as side A and Invicible Gladiator as side B. In a way that makes sense though. G7 is set in the first century AD, IG is set in 3rd century AD.
