A 20 yeard man George, is infatuated with a young woman he's never met, Princess Helene. He's only seen her in a magical pond. When she's kidnapped by the evil wizard Lodac and the king announces that whoever shall rescue her will gain her hand in marriage George determines that he will be the one to save her. Stealing a magic sword, magic armor and a magic horse from his sorceress foster mother Sybil he sets out with 6 knights he freed from a magic spell which had turned them into statues, to meet the king before setting out on his quest. The king's top knight Sir Branton initally resent having these 7 people interfering in his quest realising that there are 7 curses to overcome and 7 of them he accepts them.
A rare case in which the reviews at the IMdb are kinder than mine. I thought Basil Rathbone was wasted as the evil wizard Lodac. Since he's an evil wizard there are no sword fights making use of his talents. The knights assisting George are too easily killed and the 7 curses are not impressive. The 2-headed fire breathing dragon at the end wasn't bad.
I have The Magic Sword along with King Arthur, The Young Warlord (1975) on a DVD titled Swords and Sorcery. The video quality on this DVD is poor.
