King Arthur, The Young Warlord (1975)
Oliver Tobias - Arthur Jack Watson - Llud Michael Gothard - Kai Brian Blessed - Mark of Cornwall Peter Firth - Corin Gila - Rowena Rupert Davies - Cerdig, Chief of the Saxons George Marishka - Yorath, Chief of the Jutes Donald Burton - Herwood the Holy Michael Graham-Cox - Howard Norman Bird - Ambrose
A celtic village chieftan named Arthur dreams of uniting all the tribes of his land into a single great nation. Despite the title Arthur is never crowned king. The film ends with his dream still unfullfiled.
This is a more realistic look at the legend of King Arthur than most. There is no magic sword, wizard adviser or evil sorceress. There is no platemail armor either, hasn't been invented yet. There is a sword and a stone but its an ordinary sword placed UNDER a bolder by Arthur as an object lesson for other Celtic chieftans.
As Mark of Cornwall, the last Celt to side with Arthur, Brian Blessed is as usual loud and arrogant.
I have King Arthur, The Young Warlord along with The Magic Sword (1962) on a DVD titled Swords and Sorcery.
