Okay. Here's the question. I'm a little vague about just what "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" is about. I started thinking about it and it just didn't make a whole lot of sense!
Sinbad stumbles upon magic island with his crew. Magician comes running out of cave chased by cyclops. Seems vulnerable. Sinbad and crew attract the cyclops so there's a big fight. Magician has magic lamp and uses it to build barrier to protect Sinbad, and makes an escape from island with him. Loses lamp in process.
Back at Sinbad's home, magician wants to acquire a big ship and crew to go back and get the lamp. Presents plans for giant crossbow to kill cyclops monsters if necessary. Cleverly plans to shrink princess to coerce Sinbad to go back to the island with him.
So here's what the question boils down to...why all this running back and forth in the first place? Is this all about getting some people to build him a giant crossbow so he can kill the cyclops? (We know he wants the cyclops' treasure, and he has claimed that he was trying to kill the cyclops but hasn't been successful.)
It doesn't make sense that he is going through all this trouble just to get the lamp, because he has it in the beginning anyway.
Did the cyclops at the beginning catch him at a bad moment and chase him? Was he really in danger? He SEEMS to have trouble controlling the cyclops creatures. When he builds the barrier, the creature outsmarts him by hurling a boulder over it.
And what's he doing on the island anyway? Is he really there for the treasure, which he plans to get once he vanquishes the cyclops? Does he sort of LIKE having an island of monsters because it makes him feel like a tough guy? Does he just like solitude, and lives there because anyone with their head screwed on straight will avoid the place?
